Position Summary

The Associate Director of Prospect Research is a key member of the Prospect Research Team within the Business Intelligence Unit. This individual possesses subject matter expertise in Prospect Research specifically grateful patient research and will be focused on improving the Universitys effectiveness in understanding the financial capacity and philanthropic interests of our alumni parents and donors. The Associate Director will be responsible for the identification and pre-qualification of major and principal gift prospects from the Washington University alumni and donor base and community. This position works with other members of the Business Intelligence team to provide timely and relevant information supporting the fundraising activities of Washington University.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collect record analyze maintain and update information on new and existing Major and Principal Gift prospects primarily but not limited to grateful patient prospects. Using appropriate prospect research resources update the CRM and/or produce written reports providing information on background career financial capacity philanthropic interests and connections to the University.
  • Working with data analytics and prospect management team members identify and pre-qualify new prospects appropriate to gift officer fundraising strategies.
  • Serve as a research advisor to prospect management team members and gift officers to provide timely relevant information supporting the management of prospects through the development cycle.
  • Continuing participation on development and upkeep of Grateful Patient segments of CRM and development and processes for its use.
  • Assist in developing proactive methodologies for identifying and tracking the future philanthropic potential of alumni and donors including understanding of high-growth industries understanding generational wealth and anticipating liquidity events.
  • Conduct special prospect research projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and best practices current events philanthropic trends and Washington University fundraising objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with standard Prospect Research resources including but not limited to Lexis Nexis for Development Professionals Foundation Directory iWave WealthEngine and RelSci.
  • Proven Level I expertise in or experience with the Apra Body of Knowledge Prospect Research domain.
  • Proven understanding of the grateful patient solicitation cycle.
  • Proven financial analysis skills to identify and interpret assets including but limited to knowledge of SEC documents private company valuation and foundation filings.
  • Ability to compile report and analyze information from diverse sources.
  • Experience in grateful patient research.

This position is located in St. Louis MO and the targeted hiring range for this position is $58400 - $66000.

Salary Range

$58400.00 - $99700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including ones qualifications and performance equity with others in the department market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
