Job Summary

Director of Golf OperationsLocated in Lake Geneva Wisconsins celebrated resort town Destination Geneva National is a premier golf and resort community featuring three championship courses by Palmer Player and Trevino exceptional lodging dining and a high-touch member experience. A key leadership role for a proven golf professional the Director of Golf leads and elevates all aspects of GNs golf operation and is responsible for delivering an exceptional golf experience for members and guests through strong operational oversight team development and innovative ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Represent Destination Geneva National as a polished professional ambassador in the local regional and national communityOffer friendly and professional customer service to all public patrons members and their guests as well as GN associatesEnsure all public/member/guest rounds merchandise sales are being properly accounted for and billed by golf shop operationsEnsure that financial controls are followed and accurate for the close of each daily shiftWork closely with Head Professionals and Course Superintendents to coordinate all public and member tournaments event and outing preparations and golf operations from start to finishOversee/direct all merchandising operations: planning ordering receiving pricing displaying and end-of-month reviewOversee/evaluate with Head Professionals the hiring/training of Player Services staff including starters and course assistants with a strong emphasis on Pace of Play cultureOversee/evaluate with Head Professionals the hiring/training of assistant golf professionals and golf shop attendants H2B staffPlay with members and guests potential members or event personnel and customers when possibleEvaluate member leagues/events for profitability and effectiveness analyze budgets and green fee developmentMake sure all member tee time rules and guidelines are being applied correctlyGive golf lessons and conduct golf clinics for members guests and outside groups provide support for independent contractor teaching professionalOversee the planning and coordination of future member/public event dates demo days incoming phone calls in a professional and courteous manner as neededEnter Sign and Approve purchase orders and invoices related to golf operationsAnalyze P&L performance and develop strategies for improvement working with all departmentsAnalyze business opportunities in order to grow revenues and profits increase memberships and events develop reports/spreadsheets as needed to trackContinuously seek opportunities to educate and motivate all staff members in the golf operation while creating a work environment that promotes teamworkCreate a professional and enjoyable environment for our members and guests and GN associates to enjoyBe informed on and promote all public and member events activities and servicesUphold the companies policies and procedures when dealing with customers and members and staffPerform additional duties as assigned by the COOSupportive FunctionsThis position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions with the percentage of the time performing each function to be solely determined by the director based upon departmental and hotel member/guest/outing comments with appropriate departmentsAttend/hold staff meetings on a regular basis to maintain teamwork atmosphereCoordinate with Grounds Maintenance and F&B when required for events and activitiesCoordinate with Accounting Dept. to make sure proper procedures are being implemented and followedCoordinate with Head Professionals on all operational procedures to maintain efficiency and level of serviceCoordinate with Head Professionals and Sales on group eventsRepresent Geneva National at community/local meetings/groups as an ambassadorQualificationsPGA Professional with 7 years minimum experienceBusiness supervisory and extensive leadership ability/skillsComputer knowledge/usage and golf industry tech savvyExcellent customer service and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of the game of golf and playing abilityKnowledge of the golf swing and teaching experienceKnowledge of golf tournament/event coordination equipment and merchandising operationsSuccess FactorsAbility to relate to all associates and function in a team environmentAbility to apply and train entire golf operation with customer service and work skillsAbility to assist with guest member and staff issues/problemsAbility to anticipate guest/member needs in every situationAbility to play golf in a competent mannerAbility to work unsupervised and with all departments cohesivelyAbility to motivate and retain staffAbility to develop business plans and financial reportsAbility to multi-task and delegate responsibilities as neededAbility to lead by example every day with a smileWorking Conditions & Physical RequirementsAvailable (by phone if necessary) 24 hours for staff support Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 68 hours during event/peak days).Ability to lift carry and move items weighing up to 25 pounds walking on uneven to drive a golf cart and operate related course equipment bending stooping and to work outdoors in various weather visual acuity and to communicate clearly and effectively in person over the radio by email and on the phone with staff guests and be able to remain on site for extended work hours including early mornings weekends and holidays during peak season.
