The Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new popular and relevant products across Amazon worldwide. We do this by combining technology science innovation and creativity to build new customer-facing features and experiences alongside latest AI tools for marketers. You will be responsible for creating and building critical services that automatically generate target and optimize Amazons cross-category marketing and merchandising. Through the enablement of intelligent marketing campaigns that leverage machine-learning models you will help to deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazons customers all over the globe.

To succeed in this role you should be a leader who can prioritize well communicate clearly and who has a track record of building strong teams that deliver results. You have a strong sense of ownership passion to provide great customer experience and excellent troubleshooting skills even when in high-pressure situations. Experience with high-availability eCommerce services will be very applicable and helpful.

By joining this team your will be based in our new Development Center in Barcelona Spain. This is a vibrant city that has both a deep pool of local talent and a strategic location to attract developers from all over the world.

A day in the life
- Hiring and developing an engineering team that is responsible for design development and operations
- Managing and mentoring engineers ensuring organizational health and career development within your organization
- Participating in strategic planning to achieve technical and business objectives and define technical direction managing resource allocation between multiple engineering teams
- Leading design reviews for engineers and driving feedback on architecture design and operational issues
- Working with Applied Scientists to deliver machine learning based solutions
- Learning with us as we defining the future of Amazons Marketing and Merchandising.

- Experience in engineering
- Experience managing a team of high calibre Software Engineers developing complex world class scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
- Experience managing engineers
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
