Title:

High School Foreign Language (Spanish 1-4)

Reports to:

Bldg. Principal

Terms of Employment:

180 day contract.

Evaluation:

Reports to and evaluated by the HS Principal

TITLE:High School Foreign Language (Spanish)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Requirements for this position as required by the Department of Education and the State of South Dakota.
  2. Bachelors degree with major or minor in foreign language; and appropriate Praxis score.
  3. Teaching experience preferred.
  4. Requirements to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To motivate each student to develop competencies knowledge and skills in orally comprehending speaking reading and writing a foreign language in accordance with each students ability; to interpret to students the culture of the countries where foreign language is spoken; to discover and develop special talents of students in foreign language communication relating this to career potential.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Teach skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction to students concentrating on teaching oral comprehension speaking reading and writing utilizing adopted courses of study and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Design learning activities that will relate the study of foreign language to appropriate career clusters.
  3. Develop student understanding and appreciation of different aspects of the culture of all countries where the foreign language is spoken as a major language.
  4. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  5. Evaluate each students progress in oral comprehension speaking reading and writing the foreign language in relationship to the level being taught.
  6. Select and requisition books instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
  7. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
  8. Identify student needs refer students in need of assistance and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting with learning or other problems which may affect the students ability or opportunity to learn.
  9. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
  10. Participate cooperatively with the building principal(s) in the evaluation process in compliance with district policy and the Lennox Education Association Master Contract.
  11. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
  12. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of the student activities.
  13. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities such as foreign language workshops.
  14. Perform other tasks and duties as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The board shall offer a contract with salary benefits and length of school year to be determined as stated in the Lennox Education Association Master Contract between the certified collective bargaining unit and the Lennox School Board in compliance with state statutes.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

This position is responsible to the building principal and the performance of

this position shall be evaluated by the building principal.
