Job Summary

The Shelter Team Lead fulfills the mission of The Mustard Seeds ministry by maintaining a high level of professionalism and respect for all who enter the space. Reporting to the Shelter Manager the Shelter Team Lead is responsible for matters occurring in the building and all shift operations. Crisis intervention conflict resolution and coaching conversations are daily occurrences for this role.

Schedules: Tuesday to Saturday 2:00pm - 10:00pm
Reporting to:Shelter Supervisor

Location: Womens Shelter Calgary AB

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure provision of a warm safe clean space for respite for the guests accessing the shelter.
  • Always prioritize the dignity of our guests while practicing proper boundaries.
  • Collaborate with the Shelter Manager regarding operational and staffing concerns.
  • Enforce shelter rules expectations and suspensions with guests when necessary.
  • In partnership with the Manager facilitate re-entry and reconciliatory conversations with suspended guests.
  • Train oversee and mentor employees and volunteers.
  • Provide oversight in the very important work of building trusted relationships with the guests who access the programs and services at The Mustard Seed.
  • Work with Housing Focused Shelter Workers with case management.
  • Ensure the follow-through of the Housing Focused Shelter Workers tasks and responsibilities.
  • Be a supportive and proactive leader while overseeing the Housing Focused Shelter Workers. You will be expected to take initiative problem solve using critical thinking.
  • Prioritize and provide solutions to staff concerns and guest issues.
  • Provide feedback and encouragement to Housing Focused Shelter Workers regularly.
  • Facilitate team and critical incident debriefs & daily pre-briefs.
  • Complete daily reportsensure delivery of incident reports and collection and reporting of statistics.
  • Participate in all staff training staff meetings and regular one-on-ones.
  • Ensure that guests records and information are kept confidential updated and secure.
  • Provide Christ-centered spiritual guidance for staff volunteers and guests.
  • Participate in rotational on-call responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a Frontline capacity.
  • Knowledge and experience working with mental health issues and addictions.
  • Strong leadership people and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide positive and critical feedback.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships.
  • Excellent computer skills (proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use required software).
  • A high degree of professionalism.
  • Desire to serve in a Christian ministry.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is often fast-paced and requires moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information problem solve and process documents and data.
  • Moderate mental effort required to successfully accomplish the essential job functions such as responding to clients intense situations (including traumatic incidents) and providing information.
  • The working environment for this position requires moderate amounts of walking climbing standing sitting lifting carrying and daily interactions with colleagues and guests.
  • This position requires the training in usage of a two-way radio communications; MS Office based computer programming as well as the HMIS database system FDARP FOIP First aid NVCI and SafeTALK.

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
