Position: Violence Prevention Program Coordinator

Department: Reading Corps

Availability of Position: Immediate

Schedule: Full time M-F 8am-4:30pm; evenings/weekends when necessary

Reporting Relationship: Corps Commanding Officers and Violence Prevention Program Director (VPPD)

Salary/Grade: $20.00 per hour; Grade 75 Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

Assist with the Trauma-Informed Violence Prevention Program as designed and approved by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania serving children in The Salvation Armys Learning Center and families involved in the social services programs of the Corps. This position is grant funded and ongoing funding is contingent on program results and report compliance.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Assist with the Trauma-Informed Violence Prevention Program as described in the approved Commonwealth of PA proposal which includes but is not limited to:
  • Assist the Violence Prevention Program Director (VPPD) with working with the children in the Learning Center their families as well as families receiving assistance through the social services programs of the Salvation Army.
  • Assist the VPPD with promoting the Violence Prevention Program in the community and with other agencies.
  • Assist with recruiting children and families to the Violence Prevention Program.
  • Develop partnerships and articulate memorandums of understanding with local schools and agencies for referrals and support services.
  • Provide children and their families with intervention and coping strategies to address the trauma from and prevention of future gun violence and or other forms of violence.
  • Assist the VPPD with overseeing trauma-informed group training sessions.
  • Assist the VPPD to oversee lesson plans focusing on social emotional skills such as conflict resolution techniques in the Learning Center and other social services programs.
  • Assist the VPPD with team building activities in the Learning Center and other social services programs.
  • Assist with working one-on-one with Learning Center to assess students to see who could benefit from trauma-informed group work.
  • Assist the VPPD in developing group lessons reinforcing trauma coping mechanisms and positive behaviors.
  • Conduct initial screening intake and assessment of identified children and parents in the program.
  • Assist with the timely coordination for referrals to resources and the meeting of immediate needs for each client and their families.
  • Assist with assessments and means of measuring outcomes as defined in the approved Trauma Informed Violence Prevention proposal.
  • Assist with recording statistics and outcome measures in Service Point software.
  • Assist with maintaining a referral system with partner agencies and other partnership strategies.
  • Keep up to date case notes and ensure client confidentiality in all forms of communication.
  • Understanding that this is a two-year grant funded program and the position depends on continued funding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Social work preferred.
  • Excellent planning communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills Team player results oriented highly motivated pro-active and self-directed.
  • Computer literate and able to learn computer software programs.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation to travel from site to site as may be needed in the performance of duties Bilingual in English and Spanish helpful.
  • As a Mandated Reporter must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter. Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.
