DescriptionThe Inpatient Care Registered Nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment planning intervention evaluation) in an orderly systematic approach to meet the changing needs of patients across the life span.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current Wisconsin Nursing License required.
- Current BLS Certification required at time of hire/start date(must be through American Heart Association or American Red Cross)

Essential Duties:
- Follows the Relationship Based Care nursing model.
- Practices within Nursing Standards of Practice and follows standards of patient care & Hudson Hospital Policies and Procedures.
- Demonstrates an ability to use the nursing process to provide quality patient care for patients of all ages including neonates infants children adolescents adults and geriatrics.
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Follows procedure for medication administration and narcotics control.
- Documents medications and nursing care in a timely and accurate manner and adheres to all medication administration policies and procedures.
- Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care.
- Assures that consents are obtained when needed and that all records are signed and legally complete.
- Ability to perform head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
- Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patients response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Serves as a resource to inform clarify and educate patients and families. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate.
- Ability to assess and reassess pain and implement pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager charge nurse co-workers and physicians.
- Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients needs.
- Demonstrates ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Functions as a coordinator of patient care providing work direction to LPNs and HUCs of assigned unit and in coordination with the charge nurse. Serves as consultant to other RNs and provides leadership in absence of nursing supervisor. Works in coordination with the charge nurse.
- Ability to effectively document patient care provided in a timely manner.
- Incorporates regulatory requirements into patient care.
- Knowledgeable and incorporates National Patient Safety Goals into practice.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and assumes the role of patient advocate.
- Responsible for participating in department meetings skills fair and mandatory education proactive in identifying and attaining continuing education needs for self-improvement.
- Dependable work habits and attendance.
- Maintains positive attitude toward co-workers patients and visitors.
- Adapts readily and willingly to necessary changes in routines and procedures during scheduled shift.
- Initiates/attends patient care conferences and coordinates interdepartmental and community resources if applicable.
- Must maintain required certifications and assigned departmental education.
- May float to other nursing areas as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
