Job Summary

Position Summary:

The ETC LPN provides direct supportive nursing care to critically ill patients under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. This role assists with ongoing patient assessment data collection and implementation of delegated nursing interventions to support timely accurate care in a high-acuity environment. The ETC LPN contributes to care coordination by documenting patient status communicating meaningful changes promptly to the RN and supporting safe efficient unit operations. Through close collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team and adherence to established clinical standards this position helps promote quality safety and optimal outcomes for patients receiving care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the RN with continuous assessment data collection and monitoring of patients physiological and behavioral status.
  • Perform delegated nursing interventions such as hygiene care basic wound care specimen collection device checks and medication administration within scope and under RN supervision.
  • Document observations patient responses and delegated care activities accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Support patient safety by reporting changes in condition promptly following infection prevention and equipment safety protocols and helping maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Collaborate with the RN and interdisciplinary team to support procedures transport and coordinated care for critically ill patients.
  • Participate in patient and family communication by reinforcing education and providing emotional support within the LPN scope of practice.


Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Current or temporary LPN license in ND or compact LPN licensure.
  • BLS certification required within orientation period.

Educational Requirements:
  • LPN program as evidenced by licensure.

Experience Requirements:
  • Hospital experience is preferred but not required.

Special Skills or Training Requirements:
  • As required by specific units.

Physical Requirements:

The LPN frequently stands walks bends and assists with repositioning or transferring patients who may have limited mobility. The role requires the ability to push and pull equipment move supplies and handle moderate physical exertion throughout the shift. Adequate vision hearing manual dexterity and verbal communication are essential for operating equipment monitoring patient status and performing delegated clinical tasks safely.

Environmental Requirements:

Work occurs in a high acuity ICU environment with exposure to alarms complex medical equipment and patients with unstable or critical conditions. The role may involve contact with blood body fluids respiratory secretions and other potentially infectious materials. Strict adherence to PPE requirements safety practices and infection prevention protocols is essential. The LPN may experience rapid changes in workload urgent clinical situations and a fast paced high stress environment.
