About the Role:

The Coordinator Science and Society Network (SSN) will lead the integration of SSNs interdisciplinary work across the university. This role will establish the SSN as Deakins cross-faculty interdisciplinary incubator and lead the development of a strategy to establish Deakin as a national leader in interdisciplinary research with the goal of re-orienting the SSN towards becoming a distinctive ongoing laboratory hub or centre to support EMCRs and interdisciplinary researchers.


As a Coordinator Science and Society Network (SSN) you will:

  • Support the SSN board by scheduling meetings outlining agendas and minutes and ensuring Action items are completed
  • Support the SSN convenors in the design and delivery of flagship events such as EISS a medical humanities workshop and Interdisciplinary skill building workshop
  • Manage and organise the SSN seminar series of 8 12 events per year by liaising with streamleaders Deakin business centres and guests; creating materials; hosting each event across Zoom and YouTube Livestream marketing and post-event video trimming
  • Field inquiries from current grantholders and support the grant mentorship convenor
  • Organise the 2027 SSN grant application process: work with convenors and board on the call work with streamleaders and communications team on disseminating the call edit and update the Formstack organise and promote an information session and organise the selection panel

To be successful youll have:

  • Proven ability to lead complex projects supported by extensive experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and training.
  • Strong understanding of strategies to foster and support interdisciplinary research across diverse fields.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise competing demands meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities proactively.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate resolve sensitive issues professionally and build cooperative relationships.
  • Experience in financial management including proficiency with financial systems and sound budgeting practices.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work. Ability to work independently with initiative and sound judgment as well as collaboratively within complex and diverse environments.
  • Demonstrated discretion and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience managing websites and familiarity with design tools (e.g. Adobe Suite)
  • Fluency in Adobe InDesign Eventbrite YouTube Excel Formstack Mailchimp and social media platforms is desirable
