SCOPE OF WORK: Serves as a lead safety officer with responsibility for supervising the 2nd and 3rd shift safety and security functions and staff; performing various safety and security functions; conducting training and coordinating activities; and providing assistance with safety and security operations. This position reports to the Safety & Security Supervisor at NHTI Concords Community College
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Supervises the 2nd and 3rd shift safety and security functions and staff with responsibility for training and directing staff and maintaining effective efficient and productive operations.
- Performs administrative duties associated with maintaining a safe work environment training employees communicating job expectations; monitoring and appraising job performance; and managing employee time and attendance in accordance with CCSNH and College policies and procedures the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement and State and Federal regulations;
- Enforces compliance and enforcement of CCSNH/NHTI policies state and federal laws rules and regulations including but not limited to the Clery Act Title IX Violence Against Women Act health and safety policies to ensure the safety security and protection of NHTI controlled property including buildings grounds parking lots and roadways;
- Provides emergency response services and may serve as the Incident Commander during critical incidents directing Safety and Security Officers and coordinating with external agencies as needed.
- Reviews incident reports and activity logs for accuracy completeness and clarity prior to submission and distribution.
- Conducts investigations and prepares reports for presentation to superiors concerning NHTI policy violations and/or violations of State and Federal laws;
- Investigates accidents or injuries to determine effective methods to reduce or eliminate hazards;
- Manages the lock key core and key control system to ensure the security of keys.
- Maintains Campus Safety computer software systems with latest versions/upgrades including but not limited to CCure 9000 ExacqVision Omnigo Report Executive.
- Coordinates with external agencies and vendors to ensure that all life/safety equipment including fire apparatus emergency lighting sprinkler systems access control/electronic door systems burglar alarms video cameras and video monitors in all campus buildings and on campus grounds are operational.
- Facilitates training of college community members to include but not limited to Active Shooter Response Emergency Response and Fire Extinguisher usage.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency.
Experience: Four years experience in law enforcement work as a security guard/officer police officer corrections officer or military police officer with some supervisory experience. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of experience.
License/Certification: Valid drivers license required. Current CPR/AED and basic first aid certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A thorough character reference criminal background check will be conducted before appointment. Candidates who do not have good character or a conviction free record of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointments.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Current National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of security and law enforcement work and detainment procedures. Ability to enforce laws in accordance with standard procedures to control pilfering and damage to NHTI controlled property. Skill in dealing with offenders of the policies and procedures established for the control of pilfering and damage to NHTI controlled property. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work with people and secure their cooperation without the use of violence. Ability to perform investigations question witnesses and prepare written reports. Ability to use judgment when using force to control individuals or groups. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with members of the campus community other law enforcement agencies and the general public. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
