Job Title: Occupational Safety Specialist I
Location- Los Angeles CA
Start Date:03/09/2026 to End Date: 12/11/2026 (Possible extension for longer duration)
Schedule: 8:00AM to 4:30 PM
Role Summary
The Occupational Safety Specialist I is responsible for assisting in the implementation and oversight for site safety programs processes and communications. This role ensures compliance with internal policies as well as OSHA EPA NFPA and other applicable regulatory standards. The position drives accident prevention conducts investigations and promotes a strong safety culture across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Program Management: Monitors compliance with OSHA EPA NFPA and all federal and state regulations. Maintains the sites Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database. Supports Hazard Communication programs and ensures chemical inventories remain current. Assists in developing Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA). Monitors incident prevention investigation reports and trending analysis. Conducts incident investigations and lead root cause analyses. Monitors near-hit reports identifies trends and implements corrective actions. Leads post-incident review teams and ensure timely resolution of findings. Inspect and monitor contractor activities tools and equipment to ensure safe practices. Training Communication & Culture Building Promote a proactive safety culture across the facility. Communicate safety updates through portals digital boards bulletins and team meetings. Support ergonomic program coordination and improvement efforts. Operational & Project Support Provide safety oversight during annual shutdowns with daily walkthroughs. Procure and distribute safety equipment for CAPEX/OPEX projects maintenance and shutdown activities. Coordinate safety logistics across multiple sites (LA Emeryville San Diego Clayton RTP). Support the Emergency Response Team. Additional Responsibilities Investigate and trend near-hit data and facilitate corrective actions. Administer PPE programs (prescription eyewear safety shoes respirators fall protection hard hats). Participate in post-incident review teams and ensure follow-up actions are completed. Serve as Occupational Safety representative during shutdown activities.

More than 2 year(s) of relevant experience required.
Experience in the biotech or chemical industry preferred.
