The HVDC & Power Stability Technical Leader for Latin America will be a key technical authority within GE Vernovas Grid Solutions business driving the development and deployment of advanced HVDC and FACTS solutions to enhance power system stability and grid reliability across the region.
In this role you will lead HVDC and region FACTS projects portfolio across the region shape HVDC and FACTS solution architectures and actively influence customers and grid operators in their strategic decisions on grid planning interconnections and renewable integration. Acting as a trusted advisor to utilities TSOs/DSOs and large industrial customers you will help position GE Vernova as the partner of choice for grid decarbonization and modernization ensuring that all proposed solutions meet the reliability efficiency and security requirements of modern power systems.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership in HVDC & FACTS portfolio
- Define review and advise on technical solutions for HVDC projects (LCC and VSC) including equipment specifications grid integration studies and dynamic performance analyses.
- Lead the regional portfolio of HVDC and FACTS projects and teams ensuring technical consistency quality and alignment with customer and business expectations.
- Support sales and tendering activities and actively contribute to project execution on critical topics involving HVDC and FACTS technologies.
- Serve as the primary technical interface between the global Center of Excellence and the regional teams ensuring effective knowledge transfer and alignment on best practices.
- Power System Stability & System Planning
- Propose mitigation solutions for stability issues such as advanced HVDC control strategies system protection schemes and FACTS applications.
- Develop technical reports and recommendations for customers grid operators and regulatory bodies ensuring compliance with standards and grid codes.
- FACTS Solutions (Sync. Condensers STATCOM Series Compensation etc.)
- Assess system needs and along with competency centers design tailored FACTS solutions (SVC STATCOM TCSC FSC SSSC and others) for power flow optimization voltage control and increased transmission capacity.
- Define performance requirements technical specifications and control strategies for FACTS devices in coordination with HVDC and other grid assets.
- Participate in control and protection coordination studies among FACTS HVDC renewable generation and other network technologies.
- Customer Influence & Technical Engagement
- Act as the main technical interface with customers (utilities TSOs/ISOs large industrials) regulators partners and others stakeholders across Latin America.
- Influence strategic investment and grid planning decisions through high-level technical presentations workshops seminars and participation in industry forums.
- Translate customer needs into clear technical requirements proposing innovative and cost-effective HVDC and FACTS solutions.
- Produce and lead white papers case studies webinars and present at CIGRE/IEEE and regional forums to position the company.
- Business Development & Tender Support
- Support commercial and tendering teams in defining technical scope project assumptions technical risks and competitive differentiators.
- Contribute to market penetration strategies for HVDC and FACTS solutions in Latin America identifying opportunities and technology trends.
- Prepare and present technical offers case studies and business cases that demonstrate the benefits of proposed solutions (improved stability increased capacity loss reduction etc.).
- Knowledge Management & Internal Leadership
- Coach and mentor junior engineers on HVDC power system stability and FACTS topics.
- Promote best practices standardized study methodologies and simulation tool usage.
- Represent the company in technical conferences standardization committees and regional/international working groups strengthening the organizations technical reputation.
Desired Profile & Experience
- Electrical Engineering degree level or equivalent;
- 10 years of experience in Engineering activities within an EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) environment especially in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) and FACTS systems.
- Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish (spoken and written).
- Advanced English able to participate in technical meetings trainings write reports and interact with global teams.
- Proven experience working with utilities system operators (TSOs/ISOs) or large industrial customers preferably within Latin America.
- Strong understanding of:
- HVDC LCC and VSC technologies control and protection.
- FACTS devices (SVC STATCOM TCSC fixed series compensation and others) and their impact on system operation.
- Small-signal transient voltage and frequency stability in interconnected power systems.
- Knowledge of energy regulators in LAM market such as ANEEL ONS EPE CREG CENACE CEN etc.
- Ability to assess technical risks and trade-offs between cost performance and reliability.
- Good understanding of relevant grid codes and international standards (e.g. IEC IEEE CIGRÉ) for HVDC FACTS and power system stability.
- Exposure as Technical leader in international environment (preferred)
- Strong leadership and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence diverse teams and stakeholder.
- Demonstrated presentation skills capable to clearly and succinctly communicating complex technical messages to various audiences.
- Willingness to travel worldwide.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in dynamic and unstructured environments consistently delivering results.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability with sound judgment decision-making abilities influences and the capability to inspires and team with vision passion and strategy.
