JOB SUMMARY

The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition within the National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT) at the University of Connecticut seeks qualified applicants for aBusiness Operations Specialist 1position within the University of Connecticut Shipbuilding Initiative. The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalitionseekstoestablisha long-term STEM pipeline program for naval related careers in Southeast New program engages STEM talent K-12 through graduate school ininnovative naval-focused activities and hands-on projects through participation form the regional Navy community to provide early and frequent interactionand ultimately retentionof students from this community. Working under the direction of the ANCHOR leadership the successful candidate will provide administrative support and significant program support to help administer the newly funded Advancing Naval Careers Through Higher Education Outreach and Research (ANCHOR) in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) awarded to the University of Connecticut.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assistsstudents staff faculty and others with a wide range of administrative and fiscal matters.
  • Corresponds with administrators from other units institutions and serves as a liaison between theCenter facultymembersandother University offices.
  • Acts as fiscal manager for andresourcesto faculty membersteam members and program leaders responsible forthe use of ANCHOR funds.
  • Monitorstransactionsfor ANCHOR programming.
  • Meets with team to explain services and procedurescommunicatesfinancial information andassistswith transaction documents as needed.
  • Resolves outstanding issues on fiscal accounts including follow-up on problems to ensuretimelyandaccuratecompletion of work.
  • Preparescomprehensivebudgets and financial statements.
  • Complies withfederal state and University standards andregulations.
  • Communicates withcenters unitsdepartmentsand colleges forresolution of ANCHOR contract related concerns.
  • Develops and implements standard policies and practices for a variety of purchasing and reporting activities.
  • Supervises administrative support andis responsible forall unitpurchases.
  • Within unit and University expectations ensures compliance with established internal controls and departmental administrative policies and procedures including maintenance and coordination of center records and deliverables.
  • Works on special projects as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs related work asrequired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Current UConn employee.
  2. Bachelors degree in a related field.
  3. Three years of related experience.
  4. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Experience using Microsoft products and software applications.
  6. Proven time management skills in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
  7. Experience working in a higher education setting preferably within a scientific institution/unit.
  8. Demonstrated experience independently on routine tasks and in a team setting while regularly exercising sound judgment.
  9. Demonstrated experience working with UConn electronic systems (KFSWebFOCUSHuskyBuy Core-CT etc.).
  10. Demonstrated interpersonal skills with experience establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with diverse student administrative and faculty populations.
  11. Experience working with federal grants and contracts.
  12. Experienceworking with financial enterprise systems and project management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. More than four years of related experience.
  2. Experience with federal and state laws regulatory requirements and University policies governing the receipt and use of funds.
  3. Experience with documents and stages in the revenue process ( purchase orders service agreements invoices accounts receivable etc.).
  4. Experience working with naval or defense industries ormilitarypersonnel.

This is a full-time end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding.
