Position Overview
Seabury Resources for Aging (Seabury) is in search of a Managing Director of Advancement. This position works closely with the CEO provides day-to-day leadership and coaching and supervises three other members of the Advancement team and a contracted grant writer. The Director will work collaboratively across departments (executive finance and program) to plan and execute Seaburys comprehensive development and communications strategy.
This position is both strategic and tactical as it is responsible for updating and managing Seaburys annual development plan as well as implementing elements of that plan. The ideal candidate is a development generalist with a clear grasp of all core components of non-profit development including individual contributions and stewardship annual and online giving campaigns corporate partnerships/funding special events and grant writing. This role requires experience managing development operations ranging from data management in the CRM to gift-processing to financial projection and reconciliation. Along with overseeing the full development strategy this position directly manages Seaburys major donor portfolio requiring deep experience managing high-level donor relationships.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills that they bring to working externally with donors and partners as well as internally as a member of the Seabury leadership team. They also have strong experience in management with demonstrated experience leading developing and supporting a team to meet shared goals. This individual is excited to deepen connections with current donors and to engage new ones. They communicate effectively across all platforms understand and implement the detailed work of gift-tracking and they attend carefully to all that contributes to meeting and exceeding financial goals.
This position is a full-time 40-hour per week job in a hybrid role of two days/week in the Seabury office in Washington DC and work-from-home option the remainder of the time. The salary range for this position is $120000 - $150000.

Essential Job Responsibilities
Leadership and Development Strategy:
- Collaborate with and support Seaburys leadership as a member of the leadership team.
- Manage and execute Seaburys development and stewardship plans to achieve annual revenue goals.
- Update existing development and stewardship plans with new ideas industry best practices and data-driven analysis.
- Ensure a robust gift pipeline that is substantial enough to achieve annual revenue goals by actively managing relationships with prospective and current donors and funders.
- Participate in strategic planning for Seabury to ensure development plans align with and are in service of evolving organizational goals and programmatic outcomes.
- Serve as the staff leader and liaison to the Board of Directors Advancement Committee preparing reports and participating in monthly meetings.
Individual Giving:
- Lead the strategy for major gifts including identifying prospects and setting portfolios for leadership team members and managing a portfolio directly to cultivate and solicit individual donors for major gifts.
- Project manage the CEOs fundraising work directing her where and how best to spend her time and efforts on a weekly monthly and quarterly basis.
- In partnership with the Individual Giving Manager partner on strategy execution and evaluation of all annual appeals focused on developing new donors and retaining existing mid-level and smaller dollar donors.
- Participate in donor stewardship per Seaburys stewardship plan and annually update the plan with new and meaningful ways to connect donors and foster a sense of community
Institutional Funding:
- Serve as primary point of contact for all foundation relationships. Partner with the CEO to ensure Seabury maintains active partnerships with institutional funders.
- Supported by the contracted grant writer ensure Seabury has a robust pipeline of philanthropic and government grant opportunities to pursue to meet the annual budget goal.
- Work closely with the contracted grant writer to finalize compelling grant proposals and accurate interim and final reports ensuring adherence to the annual proposal and reports calendar of deadlines.
- In partnership with the Corporate and Events Manager identify and pursue relationships with annual corporate partners.
Event Fundraising:
- In partnership with the Corporate and Events Manager determine the annual strategy for Seaburys signature fundraising event Leadership in Aging including setting sponsorship packages ticket strategy and connected cultivation opportunities.
- In partnership with the COO develop detailed event budgets and work with the Corporate and Events Manager to track expenses and ensuring cost-effective use of resources
- Work with the Advancement team to determine the best strategic mix of annual cultivation and stewardship events to support program and organizational goals.
- Support pre- and post-event constituent cultivation plans.
Communications:
- In partnership with the Communications Associate lead the process of creating an annual communications plan that ensures strategies across the organization are coordinated.
- Work with the Communications Associate to develop creative and mission-focused fundraising messaging that effectively articulates the special role and impact of Seabury in the community
- Serve as a collaborator and editor for regular communications and marketing materials.
Fundraising Planning Tracking and Operations:
- In partnership with the CEO and COO establish and monitor annual and long-term revenue goals and budgets. Design and update a regular progress-to-goal report and development dashboard.
- Serve as key liaison with Seaburys accounting team working together to ensure accurate reporting and coding of all revenue.
- Supported by the Individual Giving Manager coordinate and oversee moves and task management for all open funding opportunities.
- Lead the Advancement team in the process of maintaining all donor and prospect information utilizing Salesforce (Seaburys CRM).
- Oversee development-focused data input and ensure accuracy in all records and development reports in Salesforce.
- Schedule and ensure documentation of regular Advancement team meetings; follow up on status of all task assignments; facilitate continuous improvement through regular evaluative discussions.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising with a focus on major gifts or individual giving.
- Leading a team in a nonprofit environment. Experience supervising larger teams (5) is a plus.
- Demonstrable experience as a fundraising generalist with hands-on practice at securing major gifts from individuals and institutions annual giving corporate partnership building special events and online giving campaigns
- Relationship management and donor stewardship.
- Working from and preferably writing a development plan
- Managing and improving development operations ranging from CRM management to budget monitoring to gift processing. Salesforce experience a plus.
- Bachelors degree or certification in fundraising (e.g. CFRE) a plus.
- Must pass pre-employment credit and criminal background checks.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range $120000 - $150000 commensurate with experience
- A flexible work environment. This position requires two days a week on-site at our office and the opportunity to work from home three days a week.
