Position Summary

The Philanthropic Consultant will support the delivery of BMOs philanthropic advisory services to High Net Worth (HNW) and emerging wealth clients. This role combines foundational knowledge of charitable planning with strong organizational and client service skills. The consultant will assist in creating values-based giving strategies preparing client materials and coordinating with internal partners to ensure a seamless client experience.


This is a director-level advisory role with opportunities for growth dependent on the growth of the program.

Key Accountabilities

Client Support & Planning

  • Assists senior advisors in preparing philanthropic plans presentations and impact reports.
  • Supports client discovery processes by gathering data researching charitable options and drafting recommendations.
  • Helps facilitate family conversations by preparing agendas and materials focused on legacy and purpose.

Technical & Research Support

  • Conducts research on charitable vehicles (DAFs private foundations charitable trusts) and summarizes tax implications for advisor review.
  • Tracks trends in philanthropy and impact measurement to inform client strategies.
  • Maintains internal knowledge resources and contributes to development of tools and templates.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Works closely with Wealth Planners Relationship Managers and Investment Advisors to integrate philanthropy into holistic planning.
  • Coordinates logistics for client meetings webinars and educational sessions.
  • Supports internal training initiatives to elevate philanthropic literacy across teams.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory legal and ethical requirements related to charitable planning.
  • Monitors client engagement metrics and assists in preparing dashboards and reports.
  • Executes administrative tasks to deliver timely accurate and efficient service.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Finance Business Nonprofit Management or related field.
  • Experience: 5 years in wealth management philanthropy or nonprofit sector preferred.
  • Experience researching and developing programmatic outcomes for philanthropic portfolios
  • Familiarity with charitable giving strategies and tax considerations.
  • Familiarity with root cause determination and theory of change methodologies
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience implementing complex family structure governance models
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) preferred but not required.

Salary:

$102000.00 - $190000.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Groups pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location skills experience education and qualifications for the role and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Groups expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Groups total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives discretionary bonuses as well as other perks and rewards.
