Description

The Assistant Controller - Cash Management will oversee manage and serve as the subject matter expert for the accounting of cash deposits and disbursements transactions for the university. Coordinate plan and evaluate the process and control function of the universitys bank activity and supervise professional staff. Perform administrative duties including hiring disciplining supervising and performance appraisals of direct reports. Provide external and internal financial reports to senior leadership used for strategic planning and goal setting.



Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage and oversee the cash management function of the Controllers Office.
  • Develop and improve processes and procedures for clearing and reconciling bank activity and system transactions including deposits and disbursements across the university.
  • Investigate inquiries from campuses and departments and resolve issues.
  • Perform and supervise the reconciliation of the universitys 23 bank statements.
  • Become proficient in the universitys ERP Cash Management module and develop training and job aids for employees and other users.
  • Supervise accounting assistants and help with their daily weekly and monthly tasks as needed.
  • Assist the fiscal year-end close of the universitys accounting system by reviewing data and preparing closing journal entries answering questions from office staff as well as campus and departmental staff and internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare statements and schedules as necessary and assigned.
  • Prepare review or approve journal vouchers and assist departments and campuses with journal entry questions.
  • Supervise the preparation of and submit the Universitys unclaimed property report to the State of Tennessee.
  • Coordinate efforts with third party contractor for submission of unclaimed property to
    other applicable states.


Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting and a minimum of five years experience in responsible management within an accounting or finance field.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) required:

  • Knowledge and ability to apply Governmental Accounting Standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Ability to identify evaluate support and solve complex issues. Extensive problem analysis design system development and documentation skills.
  • Proven effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and work with senior leadership and all other levels of university employees.
  • Ability to use Oracle or similar integrated information system Adobe and Microsoft products.


Preferred

Preferred certifications experience knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Masters degree.
  • Certified Professional Accountant.
  • High level of institutional knowledge.
  • Minimum of five years experience in responsible management within a college or university accounting or finance setting.
  • Ability to use desktop data extraction reporting products such as Monarch or EasyMorph.

Compensation for the position is budgeted for $100000 to $120000
