What Youll Be Doing

CIBCs Electronic Trading Group is a leader in electronic execution offering clients algorithmic equity trading products direct market access (DMA) and advanced trading tools for strategy implementation and best execution. We are seeking an experienced US electronic and algorithmic trading product and coverage person to manage the US low-touch trading desk and accelerate the growth and expansion of our US Electronic Trading platform. This high-impact role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of electronic trading driving strategic growth and new product development managing risk and ensuring the highest standards of execution and client service. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping our electronic trading capabilities and strengthening our market presence.

How Youll Succeed

  • Leadership & Strategy

    • Develop and execute the strategic vision for the US Electronic Trading Desk in alignment with CIBCs Capital Markets objectives.

    • Lead mentor and manage a team of electronic trading professionals fostering a culture of innovation collaboration and performance.

    • Identify market trends emerging technologies and regulatory changes to inform trading strategies and business development.

  • Trading Operations

    • Oversee day-to-day electronic trading activities across equities fixed income and other asset classes as applicable.

    • Ensure optimal execution quality liquidity management and risk controls.

    • Monitor and analyze trading performance implementing enhancements to algorithms and trading platforms.

  • Client Coverage & Relationship Management

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional clients ensuring exceptional service and responsiveness.

    • Collaborate with sales research and other trading desks to deliver integrated solutions and drive client engagement.

  • Technology & Innovation

    • Collaborate with trading technology and product teams to deliver innovative best-in-class client solutions including advanced trading infrastructure algorithmic strategies market connectivity and data analytics.

    • Champion the adoption of cutting-edge tools and processes to maintain competitive advantage.

  • Risk Management & Compliance

    • Ensure strict adherence to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

    • Liaise effectively with internal stakeholder groups including Legal Operations Compliance Technology Credit and Risk to manage all aspects of the business.

    • Proactively identify and mitigate operational market and reputational risks.

  • Global Collaboration:

    • Work closely with the Global Electronic Trading sales team to identify and onboard net new opportunities and help manage the electronic trading prospect pipeline.

    • Partner with global sales and trading teams to ensure seamless client coverage and execution.

    • Collaborate with the broader CIBC Capital Markets franchise including High Touch Equities Sales Trading Program Trading Prime Brokerage and Derivatives teams to advance CIBC market share across all products.

  • Business Development

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients understanding their trading needs and delivering tailored electronic and algorithmic trading solutions.

    • Champion a culture of responsible finance sound governance and supervision expense discipline and ethical conduct.

Who You Are

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electronic and algorithmic trading within a major investment bank broker-dealer or trading platform.

    • Demonstrated track record of originating and managing relationships with US hedge funds and institutional asset managers.

  • Technical & Market Knowledge:

    • Deep expertise in electronic trading products market microstructure and algorithmic strategies.

    • Established network and strong reputation among buy-side trading and investment professionals.

    • Exceptional communication negotiation and presentation skills.

    • Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated success in building and scaling businesses.

  • Education:

    • Bachelors degree required preferably in Business Mathematics Engineering Computer Science or a related field.

  • Certifications:

    • US regulatory registrations (Series 7 63 etc.) required.

    • Canadian regulatory registrations (CSC DFC CPH etc.) are an asset.

  • Skills:

    • Highly proactive motivated and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.

    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

    • Flexible schedule with the ability to travel regularly as required.

At CIBC we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary of $275000 for the New York NY market based on experience qualifications and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business units incentive compensation plan which also may include a discretionary bonus component. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Additional total compensation and benefits details will be provided during the hiring process.
