Assistant Dean for Spiritual Formation and Prayer Full-Time Position East Texas Baptist University POSITION SUMMARY Under the leadership of the Dean of Spiritual Life the Assistant Dean for Spiritual Formation and Prayer serves as a spiritual leader and campus-wide resource advancing ETBUs commitment to Christ-centered formation through intentional prayer and spiritual growth initiatives. Engaging in these core emphases the Assistant Dean will provide leadership and engagement in cultivating a Christ-centered community for the University familystudents faculty and staffseeking to lead campus community members toward a faithful and fruitful spiritual life as Christian servant leaders. The Assistant Dean will encourage the campus community in devotion to Scripture and prayer the mobilization for community gospel outreach and service and the deployment for global gospel engagement. The Assistant Dean will coordinate ETBUs efforts to engage in the Acts 2 Movement initiatives.
MISSION ALIGNMENT
This role directly supports ETBUs Christ-centered mission by cultivating spiritual formation and a deeply prayerful campus culture that is dependent on God encouraging community members to grow in their relationships with Jesus Christ and other Believers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Campus Prayer Leadership
- Encourage model and promote a culture of prayer among the campus community of students faculty and staff.
- Work with the Dean of Spiritual Life to develop and implement strategies to engage the campus community in personal and corporate prayer.
- Provide prayer support and ministry leadership for the campus community spiritual development events and University prayer initiatives.
- Develop and mentor individual students and student groups that desire to regularly engage in prayer.
- Partner with staff and faculty to coordinate an intercessory prayer ministry team. This prayer team would regularly meet to pray for the needs of ETBU.
- Oversee maintain and periodically refresh the Universitys designated prayer spaces to ensure they remain welcoming and conducive for prayer.
- Coordinate spiritual development resources prayer guides and discipleship materials for the campus community.
- Plan organize and lead campus prayer events such as prayer walks prayer gatherings and seasonal prayer emphases.
- Collaborate with campus ministries and departments for special prayer activities.
- Coordinate and lead prayer retreats and events for students faculty and staff.
Spiritual Formation Leadership
- Facilitate discipleship and Bible studies for student staff and faculty groups.
- Coordinate spiritual formation retreats and events for students faculty and staff and/or Trustees.
- Assist with the planning and execution of Spiritual Life programming and ministry training.
- Assist Tiger Athletics in support of team devotional programming.
- Meet with individual students for discipleship each semester.
Ministerial Care
- Work with the Dean of Spiritual Life and the Office of the President to coordinate ministerial care for members of the ETBU community. These responsibilities may include conducting and coordinating ministerial visits in homes hospitals or at funerals.
- Cultivate a prayer-needs list for alumni students faculty staff supporters and Trustees. Guide the intercessory prayer team in praying for these needs.
- Provide ministerial care to students faculty and staff experiencing grief hardshippersonal crisis or illness.
- Work alongside the Office of Spiritual Life and the Office of the President to offer bereavement and ministerial care through outreach visits and correspondence.
- Develop grief-support resources and coordinate crisis prayer support teams when appropriate.
- Serve on the ETBU Care Team.
Acts 2 Movement Initiative
- Collaborate with Acts 2 Movement and report ETBU campus community engagement with the initiative coordinators.
- Participate and support the Five Key Pathways of the Acts 2 Movement:
- Gospel Witness Path
- Scripture and Prayer Path
- Neighborhood Outreach Path
- Religious Liberty Path
- Community Care Path
Administrative & Organizational Duties
- Coordinate communication related to prayer initiatives including digital resources campus announcements prayer prompts and prayer related correspondence.
- Manage departmental budget for office supplies prayer room presentation prayer events prayer resources retreat activities and hospital and bereavement visits/gifts.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Dean of Spiritual Life the Senior Vice President for Campus Life and the President.
- Maintains a flexible schedule for occasional evening and weekend Spiritual Life activities and mission trip assignments.

- The Assistant Dean for Spiritual Formation and Prayer must be a professing Christian believer with a demonstrated personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Employee must be a model of Christ-like character servant leadership integrity ethics and biblical/moral truths. - The Assistant Dean provides active support of the spiritual intellectual and educational ideals values activities and objectives of East Texas Baptist University; and conforms to Christian standards of faith and service.
- Masters degree in a ministry related field is required.
- Training experience or education in spiritual formation prayer ministry chaplaincy pastoral care biblical studies or a related ministry field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to connect with individuals across generations
- Ability to plan events lead teams and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
- Compassionate servant-hearted demeanor with ministerial experiences in providing support to grief trauma and spiritual needs.
Working Relationships
- Reports to the Dean of Spiritual Life with some duties assigned by the Senior Vice President for Campus Life and the President.
- Provides mentorship to student ministry leaders and support to prayer teams.
- Works collaboratively with coaches faculty and staff to effectively carry out the responsibilities outlined above.
