Job Description: Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry

Overview

We are an agency recruiting for this role on behalf of an NHS Trust. We are seeking a committed and compassionate Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry to join our diverse and inclusive team. Responsibilities

As a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry your key duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and developing care plans tailored to each individual.
  • Managing a caseload in an inpatient or community setting ensuring timely and effective treatment for mental health conditions including anxiety disorders depression psychosis and more.
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists psychologists nurses and social workers to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Providing advice and support to junior doctors and other clinical staff.
  • Participating in clinical audits and contributing to service improvement initiatives to drive high standards of care.
  • Supporting and promoting patient recovery through a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Engaging with patients families carers and support networks as well as fostering strong relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders.
  • Keeping accurate detailed and timely patient records in line with organizational and legal standards.
  • Participating in outpatient clinics and supporting wider patient care pathways effectively.
  • Adhering to relevant medical and clinical governance frameworks.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role you must have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Full GMC (General Medical Council) registration with a license to practise in the UK.
  • Completion of at least 4 years of postgraduate training including at least 2 years in Psychiatry (or equivalent).
  • MRCPsych or working towards it (or equivalent recognized qualifications).
  • Proven clinical expertise in General Adult Psychiatry.
  • A good understanding of and commitment to patient safety confidentiality and quality care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team as well as independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A commitment to continued professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Demonstration of cultural awareness and sensitivity with a commitment to equality diversity and inclusion.

Desirable:

  • Experience with community psychiatry dual diagnosis or specialist areas within General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Participation in audits research or quality improvement programmes.
  • Understanding of NHS systems and processes.

Day-to-Day

A typical day as a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry may include:

  • Conducting ward rounds or outpatient clinics to assess and manage patients mental health needs.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to evaluate care plans and interventions.
  • Attending team meetings to discuss complex cases clinical concerns or service developments.
  • Providing mental health education and support to colleagues patients and their families.
  • Writing comprehensive clinical notes and legal documentation in adherence to governance and professional standards.
  • Managing emergency psychiatric assessments and admissions.
  • Participating in clinical supervision and development activities to maintain a high standard of care.
  • Acting as a point of contact for patients who may require additional support during the treatment process.
