Job Description

In Spanish 3 and 2B students engage in the three areas of communication (oral and written) through a range of activities. The teacher concentrates on each of the macro-skills of language listening speaking reading writing and viewing and provides ample opportunities to practice and develop these skills. Students explore the different Spanish-speaking countries and distinctive Hispanic cultures of the world and build skills and strategies for accurate communication through open-ended activities that allow for creativity and cross-cultural comparisons.

Through the study and use of Spanish students build upon their knowledge of other disciplines and develop insight into their own language. Linguistically students engage in basic communication with learned phrases simple questions and answers descriptions of people and things and narration in the present tense. Emphasis is placed on language as a communication tool that can empower students to discover different communities cultures environments and ideas.

Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Successful experience teaching Spanish is preferred
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students parents teachers and others
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for all learners
  • Ability to participate in and establish collaborative structures
  • Proven ability to develop successful academic programs
  • Willingness to collaborate regularly with colleagues in a positive constructive manner
QualificationsEducation/Certification
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Experience
  • At least two years of teaching experience in specific content area is preferred but not required
  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program preferred but not required
Work Environment

This position will operate in a professional non-smoking office environment which at times can be busy with moderate noise and many unscheduled interruptions. This role will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers and peripherals phones photocopiers filing cabinets and Promethean boards.
