Job Summary

The School Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates diagnoses and treats students with speech language voice and fluency disorders. The SLP supports students ability to access and benefit from the educational environment by improving their communication skills. This role includes developing individualized treatment plans collaborating with educational teams and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to special education services.

Essential Job Functions

Collaboration & Support

Collaborates with teachers special educators families and other related service providers to support student success; provides consultation to staff regarding speech-language strategies and classroom accommodations.

Supports classroom instruction through co-teaching or push-in service models when appropriate.

Community Engagement:

Collaborate with parents families school board members citizens community organizations and stakeholders. Participate in district and community-related events.

Compliance & Documentation

Ensured the school complies with local state and federal regulations prepare and submit required reports and stay informed of education laws and policy changes.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation of services assessments and communications in accordance with IDEA Section 504 and district guidelines.

Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations regarding speech-language services; prepares Medicaid billing documentation as required (if applicable).

Evaluation & Assessment

Conducts comprehensive speech and language assessments to identify communication disorders; interprets assessment results and prepare written reports that guide eligibility and intervention planning.

Develops and implements IEP goals and treatment plans tailored to each students needs.

Intervention & Therapy

Provides direct speech-language therapy services to individuals or small groups of students; monitors and documents student progress toward IEP goals and adjust interventions as needed.

Professional Responsibilities

Stays current with best practices research and continuing education in speech-language pathology and school-based services.

Participate in staff meetings professional development and training sessions; assists in the development of school or district-wide communication initiatives or programs.

Student Support:

Foster a safe and inclusive school environment address student behavioral issues and coordinate resources with parents.

Qualifications Experience and Education

  • Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program. (REQUIRED)
  • Valid state licensure or certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Virginia. (REQUIRED)
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or CFY supervision plan in place. (REQUIRED)
  • Experience working with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (PREFERRED)

Computer and Equipment Skills

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft/Google Platform applications which may include GMAIL Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint and/or other web-based applications.
  • Use of the internet and online teleconferencing software (e.g. Zoom or Teams).
  • Ability to navigate web-based programs.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and school health systems.
