Job Summary
The Diversion Worker works closely with and under the day-to-day guidance of the Diversion Program Supervisor to intentionally engage shelter users and other vulnerable populations to expedite orderly move outs. The Diversion Worker will work with the most vulnerable and/or chronic guests to move out in an orderly fashion from the Mustard Seed Shelter.
Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule:Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm
Reports To:Diversion Program Supervisor
Location:Foothills Shelter Calgary AB
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Meeting with vulnerable elderly or handicapped guests to assess and assist in moving them into more appropriate accommodation expeditiously
Identifying chronic shelter users for assessment NSQ as appropriate
Meeting with the Coordinated Access Assessment committee Chronic shelter user committee etc.
Coordinating orderly move-outs with appropriate agencies
Facilitating necessary appointments by arranging them and coordinating transportation including driving guests as required
Referrals and applications to outside agencies as appropriate
Meet all requirements outlined in the Diversion Services Grant
Required to abide by all Health & Safety protocols including completing a report for all incidents that occur including near misses in a timely manner.
Other duties as may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Degree/Diploma in the Human Services field and/or related work experience
Ability to accomplish goals with minimal supervision
Ability to understand and improve systems and processes
Excellent organization and time management skills
A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team
Ability to adapt and work within a changing environment
Strong team player
Excellent written oral and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a dynamitic team
Strong communication and administrative skills
This position requires a valid drivers license and a vehicle in order to be able to attend off-site meetings (CAA Chronic shelter users etc.)
Valid Class 5 drivers license with a clean record required and able to be insured by The Mustard Seed
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work independently and under the direction of Diversion Program Supervisor.
There is minimal physical effort required for this role
This position is often fast-paced and requires moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve
Essential job functions include the use of word processing software spreadsheets proficient in email communication HMIS database system Microsoft Outlook and PowerPoint Presentations
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
