Do you enjoy working in a dynamic fast-paced environment Do you have a great eye for detail and a passion for customer service The Maine Department of Labor Bureau of Unemployment Compensation is seeking an Unemployment Tax Associate.

We are looking for ambitious analytical individuals with excellent communication skills and keen attention to detail to join our growing Customer Support this position you will play a critical role in providing customer service support to employers ensuring tax and wage reports are filed and payments are applied accurately and timely.

We offer a flexible hybrid remote and in office work schedule after a probationary period.

Primary Tasks:

  • Provide customer service to employers resolving questions and issues concerning established Unemployment Tax policy procedures and e-services.
  • Research and resolve suspended tax reports and payments.
  • Adjust tax and wage reports when applicable.
  • Reconcile out of balance tax and wage reports.
  • Make liability determinations using established criteria and regulations

Knowledge/Skills required:

  • Integrity: Upholding ethical standards and confidentiality with sensitive financial information.
  • Communication: Ability to assist employers over the phone or in writing with reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Patience: Ability to assist potentially frustrated customers and providers with reporting eligibility and compliance requirements.
  • Analytical Skills: Research gather and analyze information to reach a conclusion.
  • Detail Oriented: Ensure that work is accurate.
  • Adaptability: Able to shift tasks as priorities change.
  • Time Management: Able to manage cases are varying points.
  • Organization skills: Able to track documents for follow up actions.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry-level to intermediate Training education and/or experience in office and administrative support functions demonstrating competency in conducting research compiling data providing customer assistance and using independent judgement to make determinations on routine business matters
