:59 PMCBC News (BC) is looking for a Social Media Editor.
Working with a talented team of journalists and programmers you will help guide our social media strategy that places a strong emphasis on understanding and engaging younger diverse audiences.
You will play a key public-facing role creating meaningful connections with the audience through CBC News BCs social media feeds and other digital platforms. You will mine those connections for story ideas to inform and contribute to our journalism.
You are up-to-date on cultural moments and trends. You are a strong believer in the role of the CBC as Canadas public broadcaster possess a key understanding of our mandate to serve Canadians and bring your own unique take on how to achieve it. You prioritize the audience and have a strong understanding of how discovery and distribution shape editorial decisions.
You have a deep understanding of video production with an emphasis on digital and social storytelling. You think outside the box have a clear vision and are able to work collaboratively with other teams in the newsroom to create content that engages the audience and builds loyalty.
You are a self-starter and team player who thrives under deadline pressure and excels at pitching original content and innovative story treatments. You are a critical thinker who is solutions-oriented with experience working in a fast-paced environment and fronting innovative journalism with the goal of building a direct relationship with audiences. Working with our Producer of Digital Video you will own and execute the social media landscape through content development best practices video production monitoring analytics and reporting.
You have relevant experience with a background in news on various social media platforms. Your work will be governed by and adhere to CBC journalistic and programming policies standards and practices. Advice and guidance are available but initiative and independent judgment are expected. This role reports to the Executive Producer of News and Digital Video.
This is a full-time in office position based in Vancouver.
Qualifications :
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Knowledge of news presentation on social platforms including emerging social platforms and trends with a passion for learning new tools and journalism forms and an interest in shaping them for the future.
Extensive video production and editing experience with an emphasis on digital video.
Ability to gather video and stills is an asset.
Expertise in how to best use video photos text and other tools to enhance digital treatments; an aptitude for graphic design is a bonus.
Comfort on camera and willingness to experiment with video treatment and format.
Deep understanding of social analytics and ability to direct social media efforts in response to metrics.
Can identify which stories resonated with social audiences and the best treatment for each platform.
Can effectively navigate challenging conversations and trolling.
Can identify assignment opportunities for social posts and platforms.
Is comfortable spearheading change and being a newsroom leader when it comes to digital video. Supports CBC staff with their understanding of the importance of social media.
Thrives in an innovative and creative environment comfortable with change and uncertainty.
Proven track record of community engagement and relationship-building. You are tapped into communities in British Columbia and want to give them a voice.
Distinctive life experience perspective or expertise that will enrich the newsroom and our storytelling.
Understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives opinions and experiences and promotes the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Is a team player good communicator and open to feedback.
Possession of a valid drivers licence and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company.
University degree or equivalent.
Job requires three to four years of relevant experience that includes proven knowledge of digital news media and social media distribution.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
