Job Summary

Plato is building the OS for litigation lawyers.

With GenAI the legal industry is on the verge of a major transformation. Litigation lawyers are overwhelmed by complex and repetitive tasks: complex damage calculations thousands of documents to review days spent drafting legal documents and more.

Our mission: Build the leading OS for litigation lawyers enabling lawyers to spend 5x less time on administrative and operational work and focus instead on strategy and advocacy.

Plato already supports around ten law firms and 1 major insurances legal team specialized in personal injury who use our solution daily to manage hundreds of active cases.

Founded in January 2026 by Ben (CEO) and Alexandre (CTO) we are backed by Hexa (formerly eFounders) Europes leading startup studio. Hexa has launched over 35 companies including unicorns such as Front Aircall and Spendesk collectively generating more than 230M in ARR and raising over 750M in funding.

Plato is already live with real users and real data solving concrete legal workflows in production. Were now entering a key building phase and looking for someone ready to take real ownership and help shape the product architecture and engineering culture from day one.

Your mission

Were looking for a Founding Engineer to join as our first hire and work hand-in-hand with Alexandre - Co-founder & CTO.

Youll help build the core product from the ground up: production AI systems backend architecture and user-facing features used daily by law firms and insurers.

This is not a research role. Its about turning cutting-edge AI into reliable real-world software in a complex high-stakes domain. Youll shape product decisions and own systems end-to-end from early prototypes to production.

Youll have a major impact on what we build how we build it and how engineering evolves at Plato.

Responsibilities

Product & Engineering

Design build and ship core features across platform AI pipelines and integrations

Own technical architecture choices with scalability security and compliance in mind

Work closely with the founding team and studio partners from ideation to production

Take part in every high-impact technical decision that will shape the product

AI & Production Systems

Build and evolve production AI pipelines (LLMs RAG agent-based systems) for real legal workflows

Ensure reliability traceability and explainability of AI outputs

Continuously optimize performance cost and quality as the platform scales

Ownership Quality & Scalability

Own systems from build to production with a strong focus on quality reliability and scalability

Support live deployments with law firms and insurance companies

Help define how engineering is done at Plato (processes standards tooling)

This role is for you if

Youre an experienced product-minded engineer who enjoys building real systems in complex environments and owning things end-to-end.

You like working close to founders and users making pragmatic technical decisions and shipping software that actually runs in production.

Youll thrive in this role if you:

Have built production systems in startup or product environments with real ownership over features or architecture
Are comfortable with full-stack TypeScript React and happy to work across backend product and infrastructure
Are curious about LLMs and generative AI: youve experimented with them and want to turn them into reliable products
Have a strong product mindset: you care about the why and think in terms of user impact
Enjoy working with unstructured data and document-heavy workflows
Are pragmatic in execution: you know when to go deep vs when to ship fast
Are energized by early-stage ambiguity and taking ownership alongside technical founders
Bonus points if you have production experience with cloud infrastructure document ingestion (OCR) agent-based systems or regulated environments.

You dont need to master every tool what matters is your ability to design robust systems learn fast and make sound technical trade-offs.
