Position: Graduation Coach for 2S&LGBTQ Students
Salary Range: Band 5 - $ 42.52 - $50.71 an hour 4% vacation pay
Location: New Street Education Centre
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week 12 months/year

Position Summary:
The Graduation Coach for 2S&LGBTQ students provides intensive support to students who identify as 2S&LGBTQ with the goal of seeing each student achieve credits graduate and successfully transition into their chosen post-secondary pathway. Under the direction of the Board and system principal the Graduation Coach will provide targeted culturally responsive supports 2S&LGBTQ students and their families (if out) and address service delivery gaps to facilitate their engagement well-being and academic achievement. The Graduation Coach develops and sustains strong community relations with agencies organizations and educational partners who offer services and supports to 2S&LGBTQ youth.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a mentor advisor and advocate for 2S&LGBTQ students with their educators other school staff and families;
Engages students to affirm their identities and cultures through Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy;
Collaborate with Core Team school staff parents/caregivers to support learning and achievement of the students on their caseload;
Create space for students to voice their experiences in working towards establishing trusting relationships and responsive services;
Provides consultation with 2S&LGBTQ students and families (if out) to support academic success in school
Monitors and follows up with individual students/families throughout the course of the year
Identify and address barriers to engagement learning and well-being
Provides opportunities for enhancement of the learning experience for staff and students by bringing authentic voice and representation which all individuals will benefit from especially those who identify as 2S&LGBTQ;
Addresses the academic social emotional and cultural needs of 2S&LGBTQ students by building positive and trusting relationships with them their families (if out) and communities using strength-based intersectional approaches
Collaborates with the programs core team school staff students and families to create a short-term and a long-term vision/plan for identified 2S&LGBTQ students (i.e. on their caseload) who will benefit from targeted supports
Tracks and monitors student achievement towards OSSD completion
Prepares reports on the progress of the program
Establish a plan to help ensure students remain engaged during breaks in regular programming (e.g. long weekends extended breaks);
Builds critical relationships and develops networks with 2S&LGBTQ community resources and organizations to help inform and support student engagement initiatives
Collaborates with community organizations to develop and implement events to engage 2S&LGBTQstudents and families (if out)
Assists with the development of school based learning events for students and families such as student learning programs and conferences in order to provide opportunities for a whole community approach to understanding the impacts of homophobia transphobia and to highlight/promote 2S&LGBTQ historical and contemporary achievements
Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Humanities or Social Sciences; or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Board
Minimum of five (5) years of recent related experience supporting 2S&LGBTQ youth
Deep understanding of systemic barriers and challenges for 2S&LGBTQ students face in the public education system post-secondary education system communities and the broader society
Lived experience deeply rooted in local 2S&LGBTQ communities
Deep understanding of youth culture (aged 13-21) and the principles of youth engagement
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Humanities or Social Sciences; or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Board
Ability to identify systemic barriers such as Heterosexism homophobia anti-Black racism and other forms of oppression and propose appropriate intervention points;
Experience in handling contentious issues with sensitivity confidentiality tact and discretion;
Valid drivers license required for travel and a reliable vehicle
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Humanities or Social Science
Deep knowledge and understanding of the intersections of race gender faith socio-economic dynamics and sexual orientation.
Broad understanding of and an inclusive approach to relationship building with diverse stakeholders in the community and in schools.
Demonstrated respect and understanding of the diversity and composition of the 2S&LGBTQ community
Awareness of local community resources and the ability to support students and their families (if out) in accessing and navigating these resources;.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a large caseload prioritize and organize work effectively and maintain detailed records
Demonstration of a strength-based approach
Experience mentoring or coaching students
