The organisation provides individualised supports so that all individuals with disabilities can enjoy experiences opportunities and lifestyles similar to their peers.

St. Michaels House provides a comprehensive range of services and supports to men women and children with disabilities and their families across 170 locations in the greater Dublin area supporting approximately 2300 individuals and impacting thousands of family members. The organisation is funded by the Health Service Executive (HSE) TUSLA and the Department of Education and Skills.

Supports provided by St. Michaels House include residential and independent living services clinical supports day services schools respite services and vocational training services.

Purpose of the Post
The overall purpose of the post is to provide safe timely evidence-based nurse-led care to service users at an advanced nursing level. This involves undertaking and documenting a complete episode of service user care (assess diagnose plan treat and discharge individuals with disability) according to collaboratively agreed protocols and scope of practice in the clinical setting demonstrating advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge critical thinking clinical leadership and decision-making skills.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants on the closing date for the competition must meet the following requirements:

Registration:

Be a registered nurse on the Intellectual Disability Register (RNID) of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI/Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or be entitled to be so registered.

AND

Be registered or entitled to be registered in the division(s) of the NMBI Register relevant to this application.

AND

Alternatively in recognition of services spanning multiple patient/client groups or divisions provide evidence of validated competences relevant to the context of practice.

Disability Experience:

Have a broad base of clinical experience relevant to the advanced field of practice.

Educational Qualifications:

Applicants must meet one of the following:

Be eligible to undertake a masters degree (or higher) in Nursing or a masters degree relevant to the advanced field of practice. The programme must be Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ Quality & Qualifications Ireland) or equivalent and include at least three modular components pertinent to advanced practice in addition to clinical practicum.

OR

Be currently undertaking a masters degree in nursing (Advanced Practice Pathway) or be eligible to register for additional Level 9 NFQ modules in the Advanced Practice pathway within an agreed timeframe. Modules must include at least three components relevant to the advanced area of practice plus clinical practicum.

Possess a masters degree (or higher) in Nursing or a relevant masters degree applicable to the advanced field of practice. The programme must be Level 9 NFQ or equivalent including at least three modular components pertinent to advanced practice and clinical practicum.

Competence:

Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge skills and abilities including a high standard of clinical professional and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

The post holders practice is based on developing a higher level of capability across the five principles of competence for registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner as defined by the NMBI Advanced Practice Standards and Requirements (2018).

2. Annual Registration

(i)

Practitioners must maintain active annual registration on the appropriate/relevant Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) for the role

AND

(ii)

Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
