Summary
The Senior Machine Shop Supervisor provides advanced leadership and oversight of machine shop operations supervising and coordinating team members engaged in operating CNC and conventional machinery used to manufacture metal parts and products. This role plays a key leadership position within the operation ensuring safety quality productivity and continuous improvement initiatives are executed effectively while supporting operational goals and organizational standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties to be assigned or directed)
- 1PstP Responsibility Ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members.
- Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection respiratory protection hearing protection foot hand head and eye protection.
- Proactively promotes The McWane Way principles.
- Provide motivation support guidance and constructive feedback to employees developing and training them while building understanding of and alignment with company culture and goals.
- Schedule machines and staff for maximum productivity.
- Identify and implement processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality.
- Monitor productivity utilizing charts and soft knowledge to maintain maximum productivity.
- Actively monitor job progress labor utilization and bottlenecks; escalate risks to quality schedule or delivery early and decisively.
- Prepare reports procedures and improvement plans as required.
- Provides senior-level oversight of day-to-day machine shop operations ensuring operational efficiency and alignment with production goals.
- Develops implements and monitors quality processes to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.
- Effectively communicates and translates safety standards operational expectations and policy updates to ensure consistent understanding throughout the department.
- Collaborates closely with managers supervisors engineering and support functions to ensure seamless workflow transitions and cross-functional alignment.
- Leads and facilitates daily startup meetings emphasizing safety accountability and team engagement.
- Acts as a mentor and coach to employees and frontline supervisors supporting skill development leadership growth and workforce engagement.
- Proactively listens to employee concerns and professional development needs; provides guidance and resolution as appropriate.
- Addresses operational challenges employee concerns and escalated issues with a solution-oriented approach.
- Oversees estimating requisitioning and inspection of materials to support production requirements.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge and hands-on capability to set up troubleshoot and optimize machines and equipment as needed.
- Reviews production schedules evaluates labor hour requirements and adjusts staffing or resources to meet operational demands.
- Oversees machining operation schedules to ensure production timelines and customer commitments are achieved.
- Ensures production packets are properly planned released and distributed to required departments.
- Verifies cycle counts are completed accurately and submits inventory adjustments to ensure accuracy across all warehouse locations.
- Maintains established inventory stocking plans for finished and rough parts within assigned product lines.
- Coordinates with maintenance to address machine and equipment malfunctions and supports preventive maintenance efforts.
- Analyzes production data and inventory trends; makes informed recommendations on adjusting stocking requirements when necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises employees within the assigned Machine Shop area and may provide leadership guidance to other supervisors or leads.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies procedures and all applicable laws.
- Partners with management in staffing decisions including hiring training and workforce planning.
- Plans assigns and directs work to ensure operational priorities are met effectively.
- Conducts performance evaluations and provides coaching mentoring and retraining as needed.
- Recognizes strong performance and administers corrective actions when appropriate.
- Ensures timely resolution of employee complaints and workplace issues.

- Bachelors degree in a technical field preferred; high school diploma/GED required.
- Proficiency in CNC operations required.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Uses mathematics to solve problems.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
