About the project

The European Train Control System (ETCS) is a digital signalling system being progressively installed to key parts of the South East Queensland (SEQ) rail network.

ETCS plays an important part in the future of our rail network delivering increased safety capacity efficiency and reliability for a sustainable transport network. The project will provide many benefits to our rail network including:

  • making our rail network more reliable which means less disruptions to journeys
  • help us increase the frequency of trains which means less time waiting for the next service
  • improve the flow of real-time information so customers always know how and when trains are running
  • provide an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system ensuring the highest available level of safety both now and into the future as our network grows
  • future-proof the rail network it enables increased passenger capacity required for the Brisbane 2032 Games and beyond.

About this role:


You will be the key interface between the Queensland Rail ETCS Sector 1 North (S1N) team and other project teams across Queensland Rail and DTMR supporting the broader ETCS program that encompasses Cross River Rail (CRR). This will include working with representatives from CRR The WAVE and other major projects being delivered in SEQ. You will support the ETCS management team in managing the delivery of major systems in a complex stakeholder environment to enable delivery on time and within budget. There will also be opportunities to support other projects within the ETCS program involving complex commercial arrangements including alliances.

Purpose That Counts - Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the key interface between the Queensland Rail ETCS S1N team and other project teams across Queensland Rail and DTMR providing advice to the ETCS management team and supporting the delivery of all relevant business area works.
  • Manage complex stakeholder relationships including DTMR CRR Alliance and Queensland Rail interfaces to deliver works on time and within budget.
  • Represent Queensland Rail in decisionmaking forums ensuring engineering design construction and handover issues are identified and resolved.
  • Oversee critical commissioning activities by ensuring the right processes and resources are in place to support timely costeffective commissioning.
  • Lead Queensland Rails oversight of the ETCS contractors handover acceptance and assurance requirements for all belowrail assets ensuring compliance with standards legislation and RTO obligations.

  • Extensive experience delivering complex integrated rail infrastructure projects with strong capability in interpreting engineering designs technical documentation and regulatory requirements.
  • Skilled in providing practical rail infrastructure solutions applying effective riskmitigation strategies and navigating rail operations construction maintenance and safety standards.
  • Strong interpersonal communication negotiation and influencing skills to support design and constructability reviews and maintain productive relationships across Queensland Rail DTMR and contracted parties.
  • Able to work within tight timeframes while managing competing stakeholder needs and ensuring compliance with safety environmental and contractual obligations
