About the role
We are building a community of designers researchers and product professionals to support the public sectors growing demand for a user-centred design and product led approach to how services are delivered.
As a Lead Product Manager reporting to the Discipline Head youll enable public sector organisations to better design services that improve society. You will be expected to role model and lead teams with best practice in your discipline.
You will work as part of cross-functional teams which might include other Made Tech team members stakeholders and partner agencies. You will inspire trust in the team guide and coach teams through the product process and use your influence to continuously iterate and improve ways of working and processes.
You might be the most senior person on the team so we are looking for people who are self-starters and who can model leadership in a collaborative and inclusive manner inspiring the team and stakeholders and using your influence to shape strategies roadmaps scopes and budgets.
You will ensure products and services deliver measurable value by exploring user needs-defined by comprehensive research organisational needs-defined by the requirements placed upon or introduced by the client and service needs.
Key Responsibilities
As the Lead Product Manager you will work on complex engagements and when necessary at programme level for those that are high risk or sensitive. You will support recruitment interviewing and onboarding of new team members and line managers up to three Senior Product Managers. You will provide strategic direction within the community of practice and coach & mentor others.
Lead Product Managers are expert practitioners of product management practices principles and approaches. As an effective leader you will help drive decisions that deliver successful outcomes. Your main responsibilities will be achieved by applying the following practices within engagements:
- Apply Agile and Lean practices innovate and advocate for best approaches.
- Provide expert consultancy to stakeholders and lead on the development of guidance on all UCP services.
- Own financial and strategic aspects of product management.
- Drive success through the full product life cycle and operational management.
- Anticipate & solve problems and build problem-solving capabilities in others.
- Lead product and strategic ownership ensuring user needs are met.
Skills Knowledge & Expertise
- Experience in helping grow product teams through community hiring and line management.
- Excellent understanding and passionate articulation of the value of product and user-centred design.
- Experience and evidence of delivering user centred products and services from ideation through to maintenance phases.
- Experience of assisting to develop product communities of practice as a leader or leading member of a high-performing practice.
- Ability to support and coach others to grow their skills product capabilities and to take on more responsibility for client-facing projects.
- Able to educate and mentor team members colleagues and peers in the wider business on developing product and agile delivery as a core discipline.
- Experienced in working directly with customers and users and able to drive teams to deliver excellent outcomes for users.
- Working within a design consultancy/senior product leadership role in the public sector health or allied areas.
- Strong empathy and relationship building skills.
An increasing number of our customers are specifying a minimum of SC (security check) clearance in order to work on their projects. As a result were looking for all successful candidates for this role to have eligibility.
Eligibility for SC requires 5 years UK residency and 5 year employment history (or back to full-time education).
