Position Summary:

Established in 1964 as the first public university in southeast Florida Florida Atlantic University serves 30000 undergraduate and graduate students on six campuses along Floridas beautiful southeast coast in Broward Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties. Florida Atlantic Libraries house approximately 3.7 million items and provide access to over 80000 electronic journals nearly 500 databases and a growing collection of e-books and streaming videos. The Libraries house many distinctive collections including artists books sound recordings print music rare books and manuscripts and University Archives. The Digital Initiatives and Scholarship Unit provides the Research Hub learning space for graduate students post-docs doctoral students researchers visiting scholars and community addition Digital Initiatives and Scholarship creates online collections from unique materials held in Special Collections and University Archives serving as the Universitys repository for intellectual output generated on campus including Florida Atlantic University created journals and curated displays.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Access Research and Learning Services the Instruction Coordinator and Information Literacy Librarian will have broad knowledge and experience in effectively developing managing providing and assessing instruction and outreach services. This position is responsible for managing assigning and evaluating all library instruction activities and promoting information literacy throughout the Boca Raton Campus. The successful candidate for this position will design facilitate and assess orientations to library services and resources for students and faculty utilizing events instructional workshops digital tutorials social media and other innovative approaches to increase awareness and engagement.

This position will primarily work on the Boca Raton Campus but may at times be asked to work at one of five other Florida Atlantic campuses.

Essential Functions

  • Plan develop implement market and assess the Libraries instruction programs.

  • Coordinate and schedule instruction activities with the team of library teaching faculty.

  • Keep abreast of new developments in instructional technologies online pedagogy virtual resources and tools.

  • Provide library instruction reference service and collection development activities in designated disciplines.

  • Collaborate with the Libraries Liaison Coordinator academic liaisons and University colleagues as required to initiate and maintain projects to promote information literacy awareness of open educational resources and research education on campus.

  • Create share and assess online learning modules in the Learning Management System (LMS) for information literacy skills.

  • Keep up with trends in instructional technologies and head initiatives to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into information literacy instruction.

  • Stay up to date with emerging digital platforms and tools and recommend new technologies that can strengthen library instruction.

  • Train academic liaisons in best practices in conducting scoping reviews and active learning instructional sessions.

  • Support continuous improvement of instruction and research services through data-informed decision making.

  • Coordinate with the Center for Online Learning to support online hybrid and technology-enhanced instruction and outreach initiatives.

  • Collect organize and analyze research consultation statistics to support assessment reporting and strategic planning.

  • Design and deliver information literacy instruction and research support for a wide range of learners including first-generation veterans undergraduates graduate students and doctoral researchers.

  • Maintain statistics on library instruction and create reports as needed.

  • Participate in outreach services to promote faculty student researchers and staff engagement with Open Educational Resources Scholarly Publishing Open Pedagogy and Digital Commons initiatives.

  • Participate in Libraries liaison program including development and review of research guides in assigned discipline.

  • Support the Libraries Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other strategic initiatives.

  • Support efforts to maintain R1/Top 100 status for the University and the Libraries.

  • Develop an annual professional development plan.

  • Investigate opportunities to carry out publish and present original scholarship research and scholarly projects related to the area of expertise or responsibility.

  • Serve on appropriate Libraries University regional state or national committees including professional committees and actively participate in Libraries and campus faculty governance.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years experience in academic or special libraries with liaison responsibilities.
Demonstrates ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member and team leader where consultation flexibility creativity collaboration and cooperation are essential.
Demonstrates strong organization skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrates initiative and strong interpersonal skills with a high level of professionalism and exceptional work ethic.

Preferred
Second Masters degree or doctorate or in process.
Minimum 5 years experience in academic or higher education in a coordinator or leadership role.
Ability to create digital learning tools including instructional videos.
Demonstrates strength in teaching and instructional design within an academic library or higher education environment.
Demonstrates ability to collaborate with campus units/departments and the community in an academic setting.
Demonstrates expertise in information literacy theory and practice experience with instructional technologies course management software and knowledge in assessment.
Proven ability to design and implement assessment initiatives evaluate library services and student learning develop measurable learning outcomes for instruction and conduct user assessment and evaluation.
Demonstrates excellent adult-based teaching skills in a program of customized information literacy sessions for classes in all disciplines.
Knowledge of scholarly communication and OER issues and trends.
Knowledge of digital repositories such as Digital Commons.
Experience collaborating with faculty and other campus stakeholders.
Demonstrates strong collaborative skills to work alongside faculty students and external researchers.
Higher education outreach and engagement experience.
Demonstrates sustained record of scholarship research and/or creative endeavors.
Demonstrates sustained record of service on committees including professional committees and coordinating projects.
Experience working with LibGuides and LibCal.
Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS) and discovery tool (e.g. Ex Libris Alma/Primo VE).
Experience using a Learning Management System (e.g. Canvas).
Experience in a consortial or multi-campus academic environment.
