JOB OVERVIEW:

The World Language Teacher at Bellarmine Preparatory School is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in world language to students fostering a positive and engaging learning environment and contributing to the overall academic and moral development of students. The World Language Teacher will inspire a love for language learning and cultural understanding fostering communication skills and global awareness in alignment with Jesuit values. The teacher should embody the values and principles of Jesuit education emphasizing the Ignatian philosophy of cura personalis (care for the whole person) and the Jesuit commitment to academic excellence service and justice.

CORE FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

• Curriculum Development:
  • Design and implement a comprehensive and culturally rich world language curriculum that aligns with national standards and reflects the schools mission.
  • Integrate Jesuit values and ethical considerations into language instruction.
• Instruction and Classroom Management:
  • Conduct engaging and interactive language classes emphasizing listening speaking reading and writing skills.
  • Foster an environment that encourages students to appreciate cultural diversity and global perspectives.
  • Introduce students to the cultures and customs associated with the target language(s).
  • Incorporate authentic cultural materials literature and media into language instruction.
  • Integrate ethical discussions into language classes encouraging students to reflect on cultural sensitivity and the ethical use of language.
  • Explore social justice issues within the context of the target language culture(s).
  • Facilitate language immersion experiences study abroad programs or virtual exchanges to enhance students language proficiency and cultural understanding.
  • Encourage students to participate in language-related events competitions and community service projects.
• Assessment and Feedback:
  • Evaluate student performance through assessments projects and examinations.
  • Use formative assessment to inform instruction and help students self-assess their progress and summative assessments.
  • Assessments designed with the professional learning community.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students helping them understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
• Student Support:
  • Provide additional support and guidance to students who may need assistance with language studies.
  • Mentor and advise students interested in pursuing further studies or careers in languages and cultural studies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Competencies:

• Proficiency in planning and implementing curriculum for French 1ï½4
• Ability to teach various World Language courses and age levels
• Understanding of educational theory and practice
• Ability to teach a range of courses offered by the department
• Ability to use current learning management technology
• Commitment to working with a diverse student body
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to collaboration

Qualifications

• Ability to teach French levels 1-4 within the World Language program
• Bachelors or Masters degree in a World Language (Spanish French Mandarin Chinese etc.) or related field
• Teaching certification or relevant education credentials.
• Previous teaching experience preferably at the high school level.
• Familiarity with Jesuit education principles and a commitment to Bellarmines mission.
