Job Duties
1. Consults directs and manages the Universitys Environmental Health and Safety Programs and environmental compliance activities. Oversee implementation of a comprehensive effective Environmental Health and Safety Program encompassing areas to include hazardous waste management hazardous radiological biological and chemical substance and lasers asbestos infectious waste general safety drivers safety boiler expectations risk management other state loss prevention programs that are applicable to the university and record keeping of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
2. Plans schedules and conducts environmental health and safety compliance audits. Ensures regulatory compliance with state local and federal laws governing environmental occupational health and safety standards and initiates corrective action measures in areas of noncompliance with environmental monitoring programs in areas of drinking waste wastewater air emissions and designated protected areas.
3. Provide a safe work and learning environment for the campus community. Provides advice training materials and technical assistance to various departments students and employees to promote safe working and living conditions and healthy work practices to reduce University losses.
4. Establish and implements short- and long-term goals objectives policies and procedures and evaluates operational effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement for Environmental Health and Safety and Risk Management.
5. Works with Human Resources to develop and implement employee injury prevention strategies and program effectiveness and adjusts as necessary.
6. Collects analyzes and prepares health and safety management information and statistical data necessary for planning and decision-making purposes and for report generation.
7. Provide oversight to third party vendors duty removal and dispose of hazardous renewal or biological waste. Resource conservation and recovery act very small quantity generator status.
8. Confers and advises with Executive Management University staff and department on environmental health safety loss prevention and risk management policies and procedures and issues related to campus safety
Minimum Qualifications
1. Extensive knowledge of business English to include spelling writing punctuation proofreading and
2. Vocabulary; effectively communicate orally in writing and electronically.
3. Knowledge and ability to prepare excel spreadsheets.
4. Ability to work independently on assignments of various work tasks.
5. Ability to provide excellent customer service and interact positively with all co-workers.
6. Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies
7. B.S. Degree in Environmental Safety Occupational Safety and Health or related field.
8. Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in environmental health safety risk management and loss prevention programs with two or more years of work experience in a supervisor position.
10. Must possess a valid Virginia State drivers license with good driving record.
