TheDepartment of Anthropology currently has a vacancy concerning a temporary part-time research officer for the Horizon funded project: LeTs-Care Learning from Long-Term Care practices for the EU Care strategy.

Lets Care aims to develop new forms of policy interventions by learning from situated care solutions and practices in underprivileged regions in seven chosen European countries (Austria Belgium Denmark Italy (project lead) Lithuania Spain Portugal The Netherlands). The project is directed by Barbara da Roit University of Venice. It aims to contribute to solving four LTC policy challenges that European societies are facing and which are accelerated by regional inequalities: affordability and accessibility of care; quality of care; quality of care work; and financial sustainability. It has three different research legs: (1) Policy analysis (2) ethnographic case studies of consolidated and emerging care practices (3) and policy learning. The Amsterdam team is directed by Jeannette Pols and Kristine Krause and includes PhD researcher Sabya van Elswijk junior researcher Siënna Hernandez and master students who are invited to join the project. The Amsterdam team is leading the second research leg on consolidated and emerging LTC practices. The ethnographic fieldwork in the Netherlands takes place in Noord Holland Noord outside of the Randstad and focus on housing and dementia/ dependent living arrangements care in neighborhoods creative practices in institutionalized long-term care and care and technologies.

What are you going to do

This position entails management and research related tasks. It requires a pro-active independent attitude. We need somebody who keeps the overview in a complex project while having fun doing it.

Organizational tasks include:

  • Keeping an overview of timelines and deliverables
  • Organizing data and deliverables
  • Setting up and updating digital infrastructures for the team
  • Taking care of communication (incl. webpage updates)
  • Assisting in organizing consortium meeting in Amsterdam and attending consortium meetings online and in partner countries

Research tasks include:

  • Writing up draft reports
  • Searching and summarizing literature
  • Assisting in completing reports and policy briefs
  • Doing fieldwork in Noord Holland Noord
  • Assisting team members in fieldwork and in managing data (including organizing interviews writing up notes organizing transcriptions)
  • Organizing / taking notes of field meetings with multiple participants
  • Coordinating master students who participate in the project

What do you have to offer

We ask that you have a Master degree in anthropology sociology geography or related social sciences. Dutch (at a level to do fieldwork in the Netherlands and read policy documents) and English are required.

Practical experience with ethnography and social science research and interest in the topics desirable.

Organizational skills proactivity and creativity are important.

What do we offer you

The position concerns temporary employment for 30 hours per week at the Department of Anthropology. The starting date will be as soon as possible and will end 30 September 2027 the end date of the project.

The gross monthly salary based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience ranges between 3.057 and 3.985 in keeping with salary scale 7 as per the Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands. This does not include 8% holiday allowance and 83% year-end allowance. The UFO profile research officer is applicable.
