PE Assistant – Secondary School in Portsmouth – ASAP Start!

A dynamic and inclusive secondary school in Portsmouth is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated PE Assistant to support its Physical Education department as soon as possible. Sport and physical wellbeing are central to school life with strong extracurricular participation competitive fixtures and a clear commitment to promoting lifelong health and fitness among pupils.

The PE department delivers a broad and engaging curriculum across KS3 and KS4 with opportunities to support examination PE and enrichment activities. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring lessons clubs and events run smoothly while helping to maintain high standards of participation behaviour and safety.

The Role

• Supporting PE lessons across KS3 and KS4 assisting teachers with delivery and organisation

• Assisting with equipment setup safe storage and regular maintenance checks

• Supporting extracurricular clubs sports teams and after-school training sessions

• Assisting with inter-school fixtures competitions and sports events

• Promoting pupil engagement inclusion and participation in physical activity

• Supporting health & safety compliance within sports halls gymnasiums and outdoor facilities

• Assisting with risk assessments and ensuring safe practice during practical activities

• Supporting inclusive sport initiatives and wellbeing programmes

• Providing administrative support within the PE department including registers and event coordination

• Helping to maintain a positive energetic and disciplined learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Experience working with young people in sport education or coaching environments

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively

• A positive energetic and professional approach to supporting pupils

• Knowledge of basic health & safety procedures in sports settings

• Confidence supporting both team and individual activities

• A commitment to safeguarding inclusion and pupil wellbeing

• The ability to work collaboratively within a busy department
