Role Information

The school is seeking a dedicated knowledgeable and child-centred SENCO to lead the SEND provision across all year groups. This is a key leadership role with responsibility for ensuring the highest standards of support for students with special educational needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the SEND department and managing a large team of learning support assistants

  • Coordinating SEND provision across KS3KS5

  • Writing reviewing and implementing EHCPs and student support plans

  • Conducting assessments identifying student needs and planning interventions

  • Liaising with external agencies including EPs CAMHS speech therapists and social workers

  • Providing guidance and training to teaching staff on inclusive practice

  • Ensuring statutory compliance with the SEND Code of Practice

  • Overseeing exam access arrangements and ensuring JCQ compliance

  • Meeting regularly with parents and carers to discuss progress and support

  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of interventions and provisions

  • Preparing department reports for senior leadership and governors

This is a high-impact role requiring empathy strategic leadership and expert understanding of SEND practices.

Requirements

  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) OR willingness to undertake it

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Strong experience supporting students with diverse SEND needs

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a team

  • Deep understanding of the SEND Code of Practice

  • Strong organisational and record-keeping ability

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers LSAs families and agencies
