Your role as a Research Software Engineer
As a Research Software Engineer you will be part of the team that focuses on building GIS applications and data pipelines. We use GIS data to generate simulation models for our hydrological calculation cores for surface water and groundwater. We use well-known Python libraries such as GDAL Numpy (Geo)Pandas and XArray. You will work closely with hydrologists and engineers to improve our research tools and deliver software that meets both technical and business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design develop and maintain Python applications and tools used for hydrological research.
- Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams and translate complex research models and algorithms into functional software.
- Monitoring software quality with unit tests code reviews and the consistent application of development best practices.
- Manage GIS data in the cloud with automated pipelines.

Key qualifications
You are an experienced (3 years) software developer with a bachelors or masters degree in computer science civil engineering or a similar field. You have strong problem-solving skills enjoy working on technical challenges and have professional knowledge of or affinity with addition we require:
- A good foundation in GIS data is required. Strong skills in Python with experience in developing data-driven applications.
- Experience with software version management tools such as Git DVC and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of best practices in software development including test-driven development documentation SOLID principles and agile methodologies.
- Experience with artificial intelligence cloud platforms or cloud optimization is a plus.
