Description of Work
The Office of State Archaeology Collections Manager based in Raleigh North Carolina reports to the OSARC Laboratory Supervisor and is responsible for supporting the management documentation preservation and research use of archaeological collections recovered from archaeological sites throughout North Carolina. The position maintains physical and digital records supports loans and approved research requests and assists with laboratory operations and facilities management.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed onthe vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are notrequired. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:
Coursework and/or professional experience in federal and state laws regulations and cultural resource management particularly NAGPRA and 36 CFR Part 79.
Formal collections management training or prior experience in a curatorial facility.
Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital outreach and archival standards for digital documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365/Office Adobe Creative Cloud and ArcGIS; strong competency with website management databases and documentation systems.
Position/Physical Requirements
Must be able to work Monday - Friday 8:00am -5:00pm
Must be able to participate in archaeological field investigations by walking through rough and uneven terrain and working in unfavorable weather conditions including exposure to noise dust animals and insects.
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 10 pounds often with or without accommodation.
Must have a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCRs Telework Policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

Masters degree in North American archaeology anthropology or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution AND two years of archaeological experience;
OR
bachelors degree in North American archaeology anthropology or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution AND four years of archaeological experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Section/Unit Description
The Office of State Archaeology coordinates and implements a statewide program of prehistoric historic and underwater archaeology. The OSA is part of the North Carolina Office of Archives and History Department of Cultural Resources. The OSA serves as the professional archaeology staff for the State Historic Preservation Office and the NC Historical Commission. Legal and professional responsibilities include archaeological resource protection data inventory collections and records management public education environmental review grants administration and technical assistance to the public and other government agencies. The Division of Historical Resources within the Office of Archives and History is home to four programs including the Office of State Archaeology; the Highway Historical Marker Program; The Historic Preservation Office; and Historical Publications. Veterans and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
