The posting is for one Engineering Specialist II position that will serve as Survey Party Chief in the Aberdeen Resident Engineers Office. Duties include performing survey work on complex construction projects supervising survey crews and lower-level technicians making independent decisions and communicating effectively with co-workers contractors personnel and the general public. When contract surveying is utilized the Survey Party Chief will be responsible for reviewing the contractors survey submittals and providing checks of their construction layouts in the field. The employee working in this position will be exposed to high traffic volumes work at heights over water or traffic outside environmental hazards confined areas and may be required to work at night and on weekends. Ability to read interpret and explain such things as construction plans contract provisions and specification/inspection
procedures. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety Toe Shoes required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC14 $52592 - $92036
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Experience using surveying equipment instruments levels data collectors and GPS equipment
Experience with mathematical functions including algebra geometry and trigonometry
Experience performing highway construction stakeouts
Experience conducting independent moderately complex surveying
Computer experience including office software and drafting software
Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
