GTI Energy is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialistto support and enhance EH&S programs at our Chicagoland Headquarters.

Work Location
The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. This position will be on-site Monday through Friday and may need to be available outside of normal business hours in order to respond to emergencies and other business needs. Periodic travel may be required (<10%).
Primary Responsibilities
Develop implement and improve EH&S programs policies and compliance plans
Advocate proactive EH&S strategies focused on hazard anticipation prevention and continuous improvement
Monitor regulatory changes and recommend updates to company practices
Conduct routine safety inspections audits and risk assessments; ensure corrective actions are completed and documented; analyze trends; and mitigate potential hazards before incidents occur
Identify opportunities to innovate or digitize EH&S processes tools or systems to enhance prevention and efficiency
Lead or support incident investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions
Develop deliver and conduct EH&S training for employees visitors and contractors
Maintain and enhance emergency preparedness programs including drills emergency team coordination and readiness
Support environmental reporting (air stormwater waste water discharge) and assist with permits and regulatory interactions
Conduct ergonomic assessments and industrial hygiene monitoring (air noise)
Assist with workers compensation follow up and return to work processes
Collaborate with cross functional teams to address EH&S issues and strengthen EH&S culture
Build strong relationships across the organization to advance EH&S initiatives
Support companywide safety environmental health and sustainability projects
Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in EH&S management systems
Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
The person in this position needs to occasionally move throughout the GTI Energy campuses to access file cabinets office machinery conduct inspections etc.
Constantly operates a computer and other related machinery such as a calculator copy machine and printer
Occasionally may need to ascend/descend a ladder in the course of job duties
May need to position self to access equipment tools and supplies in restricted spaces
Must be able to visually recognize the environment around them
Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. across the facilities
Required Knowledge Skills Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards as well as widely accepted EH&S best practices and the ability to translate them into forwardâlooking preventionâfocused programs
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize execution
- Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Strong written verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to be organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to influence teams and drive a proactive preventionâfocused EH&S culture.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in EH&S Chemistry Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Minimum of 3 years of EH&S experience in industrial laboratory R&D or process industry environments
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering EH&S training
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification or willingness to obtain
Experience with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) preferred
Pay Transparency
The salary range for this position is $60000 - $100000 USD annually. This salary range is GTI Energys good faith estimate and the actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including but not limited to GTI Energys business or organizational needs and an individuals relevant experience education qualifications certifications skills seniority geographic location and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate monthly rate or annual salary only and do not include bonus. The range listed is just one component of GTI Energys total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses paid time off and region-specific benefits.
