About the Facility
A large 457-bed acute care hospital in the Northeast Houston market is seeking a seasoned executive leader to oversee a high-acuity high-volume Emergency Services service line. The organization provides comprehensive emergency and specialty care including:
Level II Trauma Center
Comprehensive Stroke Center (DNV accredited)
Accredited Chest Pain Center
Level III NICU
Advanced cardiovascular and neurological services
Womens and pediatric services including high-risk obstetrics

Emergency Services Overview
The Vice President will have executive oversight of:
Adult Emergency Department: 37 beds 182 patients/day
Pediatric Emergency Department: 10 beds 40000 annual visits (60140 patients/day seasonally)
Three Freestanding Emergency Departments (FSEDs)
Approximately 160 FTEs
Leadership Structure
Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer
Three Directors report to the VP:
Adult Emergency Department Director
Pediatric Emergency Department Director
Freestanding Emergency Department Director
Managers and Clinical Nurse Coordinators report to Directors
Position Summary
The Vice President of Emergency Services provides executive leadership across all emergency care platforms with responsibility for strategic planning operational excellence clinical quality physician engagement financial performance and service line growth.
This leader drives performance across patient throughput workforce development fiscal stewardship and market differentiation while ensuring the highest standards of emergency care delivery.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Quality & Clinical Excellence
Lead implementation of evidence-based clinical practices
Reduce clinical variation and improve consistency of care
Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
Drive performance improvement initiatives and benchmarking
Develop and execute patient throughput strategies including capacity planning and flow optimization
Service & Patient Experience
Foster a culture of accountability transparency and service excellence
Implement strategic initiatives to improve patient experience outcomes
Strengthen physician alignment and engagement
Leverage data and analytics to enhance satisfaction and service metrics
People & Leadership
Lead mentor and develop approximately 160 FTEs
Build and sustain a strong leadership pipeline at Director and Manager levels
Drive employee engagement retention and workforce stability
Ensure staffing optimization and effective labor management
Provide executive-level coaching feedback and accountability
Growth & Strategy
Lead emergency services strategic planning and business development efforts
Assess market dynamics reimbursement trends and competitive positioning
Identify growth opportunities including new services technology and access points
Build and maintain strong external partnerships and referral relationships
Financial Oversight
Develop long- and short-term operational and capital plans
Monitor budget performance and manage financial variances
Drive cost containment and productivity optimization
Minimize premium pay utilization while maintaining quality outcomes
Evaluate return on investment for capital and growth initiatives
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of recent (within the last year) Director-level Emergency Services leadership experience in an acute care hospital
Demonstrated leadership of Emergency Services within a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
Experience managing an Emergency Department with 80000 annual patient visits
Bachelors Degree Required
Masters Degree (or approved education plan) Required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
Active RN license (state of practice or compact eligible)
BLS Certification Required
