THE ROLE:

We are looking for a well-rounded flexible Data Engineer with an interest in translating business goals into concrete solutions. Youve been part of more than one team youve demonstrated initiative on most of your projects and you can tell us in technical detail what you did to help. Ideally youve worked with at least one devops team and in at least one flavor of agile. If you havent we wont hold that against you. At DEPT we pride ourselves on our pragmatic engineering approach to making data work for the business.

WHAT YOULL DO:

• Ability to realign client expectations when challenges arise (delays change in scope etc.)
• Proactively and independently able to research knowledge needed to perform tasks (i.e. knows when to ask for help and doesnt spend significant time on already-solved issues)
• You have the ability to identify potential technical solutions that apply to an internal/client situation (i.e. ability to connect technical solutions to a business need).
• You enjoy working with peers / new hires to help them understand and apply best practices
• You can prioritize multiple tasks and communicate the overall status of a project.
• You enjoy participating in technical design of systems schemas or pipelines and offer sound guidance

WHAT YOULL BRING:

• 3 years of experience in core programming fundamentals modern tools (IDEs CLI Git/version control) and basic debugging:
• Scripting languages like Python Ruby
• Compiled languages like Java Scala C
• Source Control Systems
• 2 years of experience in Data Management Tools:
• Pipeline management tools like Airflow or Luigi and/or enterprise ETL tools like Informatica SSIS or Datastage
• Devops tools like Terraform Kubernetes Docker
• Database Management Systems like BigQuery Snowflake PostgreSQL mySQL Oracle MS SQL Server Redshift
• 2 years of discovery and assessment of a clients portfolio tools and applications
• 2 years of professional software and consulting experience
• Experience managing the ingestion of data into a DWH
• Via APIs ETL tools batch feeds etc.
• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS or GCP) is a plus.
• Experience with Unix-based OSes a plus!
