Job Description

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Phlebotomy & Patient Care

Perform blood collection for inpatient outpatient and ED patients
Conduct daily inpatient ward rounds
Complete STAT ASAP and timed collections
Follow strict patient identification procedures and accurate specimen labeling
Provide professional compassionate patient-centered service

Specimen Processing

Perform centrifugation aliquoting and sample preparation
Prepare specimens for send-out testing
Troubleshoot and document any collection or processing issues
Protect all electronic and paper-based patient information in accordance with HIPAA and VA privacy rules

Compliance & Documentation

Follow all safety HIPAA infection-control and VA policies
Meet laboratory quality control QA/QI and documentation requirements
Participate in quality improvement activities and occasional staff meetings
