Reporting to the Vice President Strategy and Enablement the AVP Health Data Strategy and Insights will be responsible for developing and executing our data analytics strategy to enable Sun Life Health in achieving sustainable competitive advantage and growth and improving the health outcomes of our clients. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced dynamic and fun environment with a focus on further maturing our data and data science capabilities and developing and implementing our analytics strategy and initiatives.

What will you do

• Data Analytics strategy development and execution

  • Develop and maintain analytics strategy that drives growth for Sun Life Health and improvements in Client health outcomes

  • Evaluate and prioritize across opportunities to predict and prevent health outcomes personalize the client health experience generate value-adding research and commercializing insights

  • Partner with Sun Life Canadas Client Experience Office to align with overall Canada data and analytics strategy

  • Execute the analytics strategy collaborating within Sun Life health and across functional groups as needed

• Data foundation transformation

  • Mature data foundations to support data analytics strategy including further enabling personalization of Sun Life Health products

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Data & Analytics Data Architecture and Technology teams to design and implement necessary data architecture and engineering

• Advanced analytics

  • Apply relevant data analytics methodologies (including AI & ML) to deliver on our strategy

  • Lead execution of use cases and manage delivery both within the Data Science and Analytics teams and collaborating with other Sun Life Canada businesses and functions as needed

  • Operationalize analytical models in the field by addressing technology process and change management requirements

  • Collaborate with data analytics partners in Canada and Technology to leverage common capabilities tools and assets

• Thought leadership and real world evidence

  • Develop and execute strategies to leverage real world data and evidence to generate actionable business insights and thought leadership for internal and external audiences

  • Lead a team of in designing and conducting observational studies using real world data sources - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify high-impact areas where real world evidence can inform decision making and/or inform client experience improvements and product development

  • Develop and maintain relevant relationships within the Canadian health ecosystem and academic communities and represent Sun Life Health as a thought leader

  • Proactively foster relationships within Sun Life with business and functional partners to maintain an understanding of new developments in their areas

• Business Intelligence

  • Lead data driven decision making across Sun Life Health by deploying effective descriptive and diagnostic analytics solutions

  • Coordinate development and delivery of timely and insightful reporting for Sun Life Health products (including Lumino Health Pharmacy and Lumino Provider Search)

  • Provide day-to-day data and analytics support for Sun Life Health products

  • Support product and strategy development with ad hoc business and strategic insights

• Compliance and knowledge management

  • Implement consistent and comprehensive standards in documentation across data engineering business intelligence and analytical models

  • Maintain documentation of existing data processes and models

  • Ensure knowledge is cross pollinated across the team to minimize key personnel knowledge risk

  • Maintain understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks and privacy policies and ensure compliance within data management and analytical processes

• Talent development and capability building

  • Lead and coach a diverse reporting team through proactive career development and continuous feedback

  • Actively promote Sun Life brand and community image to attract talent

  • Continue to build and mature capabilities to deliver on Data Science and Analytics strategy

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory and policy requirements

What do you need to succeed

• Minimum of 10 years relevant business data and/or analytics experience ideally within the health pharmacy disease management or benefits industries

• Experience leading data science and analytics functions to deliver value in a business context

• Strong technical understanding of relevant data science and analytics concepts (e.g. predictive analytics machine learning AI) business intelligence and relevant technology and tools

• Experience in leading high performing teams and professional knowledge workers

• Experience working with health pharmacy or benefits data an asset

• University degree in business engineering computer science or related discipline

• As this position is posted in several locations we specify that bilingualism (French English both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
