Job Summary

This role is part of a team of three in Communication and Government Affairs (CGA) accountable for business partnering Global Finance Legal & Compliance Procurement WREF and CGA. The team delivers expert communications advice planning and execution as well as personal communications advice and coaching for senior leaders. The team is supported by aligned colleagues in GSKs expert global internal engagement delivery team.

This role reports to the Head of Communications Global Finance Legal & Compliance. Its a great opportunity for an experienced communications director - proactive articulate and strategic - to deepen their business understanding and take direct accountability for advising senior leaders and developing/delivering impactful communications plans.

Purpose

  • Develop and coordinate delivery of comms plans for Procurement WREF and CGA that motivate focus and align teams to deliver GSKs priorities including critical change and strategic initiatives led by the functions
  • Provide personal communications coaching advice and support to senior leaders
  • Lead deployment of company initiatives across the functions with guidance and context to leaders
  • Deputise for the Head of Communications for Global Finance and Legal & Compliance

Responsibilities

This is a multi-faceted role which will see you representing CGA and leading on all aspects of communication for the functions you support advising leaders and partnering with expert CGA colleagues when needed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to

Procurement WREF and CGA

  • Contracting with functional leaders on priorities
  • Personal communications coaching advice and support to leaders in line with both CGA priorities/messaging and the priorities of the function
  • Development and delivery of strategic comms plans including creative ideas for engagement and live events
  • Guiding functional lead teams on communications to mobilise their people
  • Leading comms on company initiatives and issues owned by the function partnering with CGA colleagues
  • Providing timely updates on GSK reputation/communications context and briefing functional leaders as needed on company messaging and positions

Global Finance and Legal & Compliance

  • Supporting the Head of Global Functions Communications
  • Deputising when needed including advice and comms support to ExCom members and their LTs
  • Leading delivery of defined functional initiatives or events

Attributes

We are looking for an experienced communications professional with:

  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
  • The ability to assess and prioritise business needs and asks for support from different stakeholders based on their business impact and a clear understanding of the role of CGA
  • The learning agility required to quickly master and articulate nuanced functional priorities within a broader business context verbally and in writing
  • A proven ability to lead others
  • Discretion and the ability to use judgment in all situations particularly when handling sensitive or confidential information
  • Confidence working with senior executives and advising on complex communication challenges

Required experience

  • Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated internal engagement experience within the Communications function
  • Experience working with senior executives in large complex organisations
  • Experience supporting or leading significant communication programmes including change communications
  • Experience in the pharma industry or a comparable sector
  • Experience in a highly matrixed international organisation
