Salary range: $40/Hourly
Schedule: Monday through Thursday 8:00 am -12:00 pm includes 30 min of prep a day
General Description:
The Summer Success School Adjustment Counselor provides short-term social-emotional and behavioral support to elementary students participating in the Summer Success program. The counselor works collaboratively with summer program staff to promote emotional regulation positive peer interactions and readiness for learning. This role focuses on skill-building support for students with an emphasis on adjustment coping skills and successful participation in the summer learning environment. This position requires excellent spoken and written communication skills the ability to connect across diverse cultures and a strong commitment to educational equity for all students.
Responsibilities:
- Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling to support students social-emotional adjustment emotional regulation and coping skills.
- Support Multilingual Learners by using culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate social-emotional strategies in collaboration with classroom staff and language support personnel as appropriate.
- Support students experiencing challenges related to transitions anxiety peer conflict frustration tolerance or behavioral regulation during the summer program.
- Implement developmentally appropriate SEL interventions strategies and check-ins aligned with program goals.
- Monitor student progress and adjust supports as needed to promote engagement and success.
- Collaborate with summer teachers program coordinators and support staff to identify students needing additional social-emotional support.
- Provide consultation and strategies to staff to support classroom management student regulation and positive behavior supports.
- Participate in meetings as needed to discuss student needs patterns and responsive strategies.
- Safety Care Certified
- Support crisis prevention and de-escalation using trauma-informed and developmentally responsive approaches.
- Maintain brief appropriate documentation of student contacts and interventions in alignment with district expectations for summer programming.
- Communicate with families as needed in collaboration with program administration to support student adjustment and participation.
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in accordance with professional guidelines and district policies.
Qualifications:
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification as a School Counselor or Adjustment Counselor/School Social Worker
- Three years of experience in schools and/or with elementary age students preferred
- Masters degree preferred
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to sit stand walk talk hear operate a computer hand-held learning devices and other office equipment reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
