What youll do
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice-President of Engagement and Experience the Director of Advancement provides strategic leadership for NBCCs fundraising donor development and stewardship; NBCC Alumni the Robertson Institute for Community Leadership; and community engagement services.
The Director will be accountable for growing and stewarding NBCC gifts and contributions from the current target of $2 million annually and building the team and case to take NBCC into its next major fundraising campaign. They will represent NBCC in conversations with senior external leaders and decision makers. Beyond donor relationships the Director of Advancement will work with institutional leaders in identifying and cultivating key strategic relationships which will advance the College.
In addition the Director of Advancement plays a key institutional leadership role in fostering a shared understanding of advancement across the College. This includes building internal awareness confidence and alignment around the purpose and value of advancement and supporting leaders and staff to understand their role in stewarding relationships that advance NBCCs purpose.
Beyond donor relationships the Director of Advancement ensures NBCC continues to build strong community connections through the NBCC Alumni the Robertson Institute for Community Leadership and community engagement services.
Advancement Strategy Fundraising & Donor Development
- Provide strategic leadership for the Colleges fundraising and donor development efforts.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive advancement strategy aligned with NBCC priorities.
- Establish donor pipelines stewardship frameworks and advancement practices.
- Advise senior leadership on philanthropic opportunities and risks.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy and shared understanding of advancement across NBCC.
- Equip leaders and staff with clarity and confidence to support advancement appropriately.
- Embed advancement considerations into institutional planning and governance.
External Engagement
- Work with institutional leaders to identify and cultivate key strategic partnerships.
- Identify which external relationships warrant Advancement-level stewardship.
- Ensure clarity of ownership and appropriate escalation between Advancement-level and operational relationships.
- Establish a service model which will enable and support NBCC employees in delivering quality partner experiences across all levels of partnerships.
Alumni Strategy & Engagement Direction
- Provide strategic direction for alumni engagement as a long-term advancement asset.
- Ensure alumni engagement supports future advancement and fundraising objectives.
- Strengthen alignment between alumni engagement NBCC goals and institutional storytelling.
Community Leadership
- Provide strategic oversight for the continued evolution and expanded impact of NBCCs Robertson Institute for Community Leadership a key component of NBCCs student experience and an engine of community impact.
Operational & Team Leadership
- Lead inspire and develop a high-performing advancement team fostering a culture of collaboration accountability and continuous improvement.
- Set clear goals expectations and performance standards ensuring alignment with NBCCs strategic priorities and divisional objectives.
- Champion operational excellence by streamlining processes leveraging data-driven decision-making and implementing best practices in fundraising and partnership management.
- Promote professional growth and leadership development within the team providing coaching mentorship and opportunities for skill-building.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other NBCC divisions to drive integrated strategies and maximize institutional impact.
Financial & Compliance Management
- Manage operational budgets of approximately $350k Alumni revenue over $200k and annual gifts of over $2 million annually
- Oversee policies and performance metrics for all advancement activities.
- Ensure compliance with ethical fundraising standards applicable regulations and institutional policies.
- Track and report on outcomes providing analysis and recommendations to executive leadership.
What youll need
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration Communications Public Relations Education Commerce Marketing or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in fundraising partnership/business development stakeholder engagement or strategic relations ideally within post-secondary or nonprofit environments.
- Demonstrated success in leading major campaigns building and managing large-scale partnerships securing significant gifts and achieving revenue/growth targets.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams budgets and complex projects.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent.
