Position Summary
The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision and support of custodial staff across assigned District buildings. The position ensures school facilities are clean safe and prepared for instructional and community use. The Custodial Supervisor oversees custodial schedules cleaning standards training and supply management while coordinating with the maintenance team when repairs or building issues arise. This is a working supervisor position that assists with custodial duties as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership
- Provide daily supervision direction and support to all custodial personnel.
- Assign and prioritize cleaning tasks schedules and building coverage.
- Leads in the hiring process of custodial team.
- Support onboarding of new custodial staff and ensure consistency across buildings.
- Train staff in custodial procedures equipment use chemical safety and District standards.
- Monitor job performance provide feedback and complete evaluations.
- Foster a positive team-oriented work environment.
- Maintain flexibility to respond to issues across multiple buildings.
- Support emergency response for spills weather events or urgent facilities needs.
Custodial Operations & Cleaning Standards
- Ensure buildings are cleaned sanitized maintained according to District expectations.
- Conduct daily walk-throughs to monitor cleanliness safety and completion of duties.
- Oversee nightly cleaning routines restroom and locker room sanitation classroom readiness and high-touch surface care.
- Ensure proper floor cleaning vacuuming dusting trash removal and specialized cleaning tasks.
- Assist custodial staff during absences peak periods or when urgent cleaning is required.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety procedures chemical handling protocols and PPE requirements.
- Ensure custodial staff follow OSHA standards and District safety guidelines.
- Provide safety training in equipment operation hazard communication and emergency procedures.
- Maintain organized custodial closets mechanical rooms and chemical storage areas.
Inventory Supplies & Equipment Management
- Monitor custodial supply levels and ensure materials are stocked and distributed.
- Assist with ordering chemicals paper products and cleaning equipment.
- Ensure custodial equipment is maintained functional and used properly.
- Track supply usage to support budgeting and cost efficiency.
Teamwork & Communication
- Maintain strong communication with building principals and District administration.
- Respond promptly courteously and professionally to building needs custodial concerns and staff requests.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team regarding repairs or issues beyond custodial scope.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of three years of custodial facilities or operations experience required.
- Prior supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in a school or institutional setting preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid drivers license required.
- OSHA safety training.
- Custodial or facilities-related certifications.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of custodial practices cleaning methods chemicals and sanitation standards.
- Ability to train supervise and support staff effectively.
- Clear communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage schedules prioritize tasks and solve problems independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively with administrators staff and maintenance teams.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing walking climbing bending kneeling carrying and reaching.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in indoor/outdoor environments and around cleaning chemicals.
- Use of custodial tools equipment and machinery.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work Environment
- Work performed primarily indoors across buildings.
- Exposure to cleaning agents noise and varying conditions.
- Work schedule fluctuates to provide consistent supervision and support across day and night shifts.
