Location: The Woodlands TX 77380 OR New Orleans LA (Hybrid 3 days onsite per week) Local candidates only

Regional Strategy: Gulf Coast Energy & Enterprise Solutions
This role supports a direct client with a strong presence across the Gulf Coast region specifically in The Woodlands TX and New Orleans LA. The client is undergoing a significant cloud transformation initiative modernizing legacy on-premise workloads into scalable secure AWS environments. We are seeking an experienced AWS Solutions Architect who can bridge the gap between business stakeholders and engineering teams driving architecture decisions and ensuring best-in-class cloud implementations. Local candidates only hybrid onsite presence is mandatory for effective collaboration with DevOps application and security teams located in both hubs.

Location Requirement:
Must reside within reasonable daily commute to either The Woodlands TX 77380 OR New Orleans LA. Candidates must specify which location they are applying for. No exceptions.

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled AWS Solutions Architect for a contract opportunity. This role is responsible for designing implementing and optimizing scalable secure and cost-effective cloud solutions on AWS. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on architecture experience can engage with both technical and business stakeholders and is comfortable driving long-term architectural strategy. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define cloud roadmaps enforce architecture standards and ensure seamless integration across applications and data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Cloud Solution Design: Architect AWS cloud solutions aligned with business security and performance requirements; lead architecture discussions and technical decision-making.
• Documentation & Standards: Develop and review AWS reference architectures diagrams and comprehensive design documentation.
• Migration Strategy: Support cloud migrations from on-premises or hybrid environments to AWS ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
• Best Practices: Implement best practices for scalability availability security and cost optimization across all AWS environments.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with DevOps application data and security teams to ensure seamless integration and adherence to architectural guidelines.
• Infrastructure as Code: Provide guidance on Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation; promote automation-first approaches.
• Troubleshooting & Optimization: Participate in troubleshooting root cause analysis and performance tuning of cloud infrastructure.
• Mentorship: Mentor engineers and provide architectural oversight during implementation phases.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into robust scalable technical solutions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: Minimum 7 years of overall IT experience with at least 4 years of hands-on AWS architecture experience.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Strong knowledge of core AWS services including EC2 VPC IAM S3 RDS Lambda ECS/EKS CloudWatch and Route 53.
  • Experience designing highly available fault-tolerant and secure cloud architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of networking security and identity management in AWS.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform CloudFormation or similar).
• Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Self-motivated adaptable and comfortable in fast-paced environments.
• Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field; equivalent experience considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional.
• Experience with hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environments.
• Exposure to containerization and Kubernetes (EKS).
• Experience supporting regulated or enterprise environments (Utilities Energy Finance Healthcare a plus).
• Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly Rate: $75/hour (W2 contract).
• Biweekly payroll with direct deposit.
