Position Summary:
The Education & Outreach Specialist leads Georgia 811s statewide elementary education and outreach program by delivering engaging in-person presentations to elementary school students across Georgia. This position also supports outreach campaigns promotional materials and departmental administrative needs. The role serves as a public-facing representative of Georgia 811 and requires extensive travel strong presentation skills and the ability to work independently.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Educational Programming & Outreach
- Deliver the Digger Dog Utility Safety Program to elementary students in an engaging and age-appropriate manner
- Serve as the lead representative for Georgia 811s statewide elementary education program
- Schedule and coordinate school presentations to meet contracted appearance goals
- Attend local events parades trade shows conferences and community outreach events
- Manage setup and breakdown of program materials for each event/presentation
- Develop execute and evaluate an annual statewide outreach campaign
- Coordinate with member utilities and community partners to support local visits and events
- Manage educational program social media content
- Coordinate travel logistics including overnight trips as needed
- Maintain program materials inventory and assigned vehicle readiness/cleanliness
- Work with contracted mascot company and manage related logistics
Promotional Materials
- Coordinate printing and distribution of outreach/education materials
- Maintain inventory and organization of PR materials and storage areas
- Manage incoming/outgoing public relations materials
Administrative Support
- Provide administrative/logistical support to the Corporate Communications Department
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 75% travel statewide
- Includes early morning travel day trips in the Atlanta area and multi-day overnight trips across Georgia
- Some evening and weekend events required
Qualifications
Required / Preferred
- Bachelors degree preferred (Communications Education Theatre or related field); equivalent experience considered
- Experience engaging and presenting to elementary-aged students
- Strong public speaking presentation and/or performance skills
- Highly organized with strong time-management and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and administrative capability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of one-call/utility locating processes preferred
- Valid drivers license with clean driving record
- Ability to professionally represent Georgia 811 with schools partners and the public
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit stand walk and drive for extended periods
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions (typing grasping hand/wrist movements filing etc.)
